Tourism Living Lab • What should a Tourism Living Lab do? • Policy objectives • Lead to more sustainable tourism (environemental, social, economic and cultural) • Increase inovation capacity • Reinforce local community, highlight culture • ICT Platforms and services • Maximum geographical coverage • Allow maximum local involvement (digital divide) • Governance issues • LDA as facilitator: users are local establishments and tourists • Network where possible with other experiments

LarnacaNet • Public front end: tourism information space • Localities, Culture, Events, Itineraries, etc. • Back office: Web 2.0-based collaboration • On-line business and innovation support from LDA • Local community provides content for front end • On-line groups discuss problems, organise joint initiatives, define scenarios

VisitorCo-design pilot • Involve tourists in co-designing new tourism products • Potential, current or past visitors launch ideas in LarnacaNet • One or more local actors accept idea and initiate co-design project • Other tourists (pre- during or post-trip) and local actors can join co-design group • Participating tourists get free service on arrival to test and evaluate

Last-minute pilot • Tourism services not available on a regular basis: meal at a home, art exhibit opening, concert or performance, fishing trip… • Tourists subscribe according to category with mobile phone number • Network detects tourist’s location, sends SMS alerts of up-coming services • Tourists confirm via SMS, service organisers are informed via SMS

Angels pilot • Kublai project “Angeli per viaggiatori” http://progettokublai.ning.com/group/angelidinapoli • Local inhabitants interested in accompanying tourists, showing them lesser-known monuments, activities of daily life, etc. • Visitors and Angels publish “profiles” – e.g. interested in nature, culture or sea – to match attitudes and points of interest • Inter-cultural learning promoting development and pride of place “seeing your own culture through the eyes of strangers”

  9. LarnacaLab scenario • Long-term view: Larnaca as a Living Lab • Evaluation of scaling-up potential of pilot scenarios • Investment attractiveness for ICT sector • Example hypothesis: free zone for radio frequencies • Evaluation of impact on sustainable development for Larnaca District
