  1. Encyclopedia of an ordinary life • Bodhi Christy • Period 6

  2. Ants • One day my sister, Elizabeth, and her friend Tasha took me down to the park. They started to throw around a football, so I asked them if I could play. After they rejected me, they told me to go sit down. I sadly walked over to the nearest tree and sat down. I looked down to find something very interesting… I sat on an ant hill! Tons of ants started to crawl up my body, biting here and there. The bites left marks for a couple of years after that. Surprisingly, it didn’t hurt, but it did feel weird having masses of ants crawling up my body. I jumped up as fast as I could and started screaming and running around in circles. My sister picked me up, ran me inside and began to wash them off.

  3. Batter up • Baseball is my favorite sport. I have been playing baseball since I was in kindergarten. I play spring and fall baseball with Raleigh Parks and Rec. My favorite position is first base. I am also a pretty good hitter. It’s awesome that my dad can help out. He has been an assistant coach every season since I started playing. He also likes to go to the batting cages with me. I have met a lot of my friends through baseball and over the years I’ve had some pretty amazing coaches. I would really like to keep playing baseball for as long as I can.

  4. Chicken • I have a bird named Chicken. He is two years older than I am. He is a fourteen year old cockatiel. Chicken used to belong to my Grandma Christy until she gave him to my dad. We have had him ever since. Chicken can say some pretty amazing phrases like “pretty bird”, and “hey Chicken.” He can also make chicken noises. He can sing the Ed, Ed and Eddie theme song and can almost sing the one to Malcolm in the Middle. Chicken is a pretty cool bird.

  5. Dr. Land • Dr. Land is my orthodontist. He initially put my braces on when I was ten. I had them on for about a year. I had them taken off because I had some teeth that needed to come out. I got them put back in right before I turned twelve. I just can’t wait to get them off. They are hard to keep clean and I can’t eat sticky or gooey stuff. It will be tremendous to have them off, but I will really miss Dr. Land.

  6. Elizabeth • Elizabeth is my sister. She is twenty-two years old. She goes to UNC Charlotte for college. She lives with her boyfriend JD in Charlotte. Sometimes, I go to stay with her for a little while. Elizabeth and JD took me to Dave and Busters. I had a truly excellent time. She also took me to a Charlotte Knight’s baseball game. I really miss her but luckily she doesn’t live too far away.

  7. Father and Mother • My mom’s name is Laurie. She is a stay at home mom. She volunteers at my school library. She is an incredible cook and is always looking for new ways to make me happy. She is amazing and I love her very much. My dad’s name is Marshall. He is really just the smartest person that I know. He works at a computer place called Talari. I really don’t get what they do at his work. He has explained it to me a million times but it’s confusing. Whenever he says anything that has to do with computers it just sounds like gibberish. He is the most patient person I know. He always helps me with my homework, and he can always answer my questions. My mom and dad have been together for fourteen years.

  8. Golf • I enjoy playing golf. I have only played it a couple of times but it was awesome. I really want to do it again soon before it gets too cold out. I have been to the driving range a lot. It’s really cool there. They just give you a bucket of balls and you go out and hit them. They also have a mini golf course which is pretty cool too. I want to keep practicing and get better at it. My dad even bought me my own set of clubs.

  9. Halloween • I think that Halloween is awesome for so many reasons. I don’t go trick or treating any more but I like to give out the candy. My family had an amazing Halloween party this year. I went as a mummy. My mom made my costume. We had grave stone brownies, witch finger cookies, mummy dogs, a Jell-O brain, and a head made out of ham and cream cheese. I hope we have another one next year!

  10. Ian • Ian is my real name. My mom named me after the guy who wrote the James Bond movies, Ian Fleming. My nickname came from a movie called Point Break. The main character is named Bodhi, which is how I got my nickname. My dad started to call me that when I was six months old and it just stuck. At first I didn’t even know my real name was Ian. I have been called Bodhi ever since.

  11. JD • My sister’s boyfriend’s name is JD. He is a student teacher right now. He goes to UNC Charlotte with my sister. He is a gigantic NC State fan. He has taken me to a couple of games. He is a lot of fun to hang out with. Sometimes he helps me with baseball which is also his favorite sport. After he graduates from college, he wants to be a high school history teacher and coach the baseball team.

  12. Kitty • I have two cats. Their names are Shadow and Noel. Shadow has short black hair. Noel has grayish lengthy hair. They are brother and sister even though they don’t look alike. My dog Beavis, bullies them all of the time. It’s hilarious when the cats scare him away.

  13. Lego’s • I have loved Lego’s since I have been old enough to play with them. I started to play with the smaller, basic sets when I was four, and made my way up to tall towers, magnificent castles, and a pirate ship I made last year. I have multiple shelves full of colorful Lego’s big to small. I also have several large tubs filled with just random Lego’s, characters and building pieces. I also have a few sets that are incomplete, have broken pieces, or that I don’t haven’t completed yet. I have an addiction to Lego’s. I just can’t seem to get enough.

  14. Man’s best friend • My best friend is my dog, Beavis. He is a brindle hound mix who will lick your skin off. He is a very loyal dog who freaks out when ever someone rings the door bell. He is the only dog I have ever had and I think that he is incredible. He is a major part of my family and I don’t know what I would do without him.

  15. Napoleon • Napoleon Dynamite is one of my favorite movies. When I first watched it I thought it was terrible. The jokes were dreadful, the acting was horrific, and I thought it was just plain stupid. Then I watched it again. It made more sense, I got all of the jokes, and I just appreciated it a lot more. It turned out to be pretty entertaining movie. In fact, it’s one of my favorite movies ever.

  16. Oops • Oops is my clown name. That’s right, I am a clown. I am a clown in a circus for charity. We raise money for Shriner’s Hospitals. The Shrine Circus comes to Raleigh every fall to raise as much money as possible. The circus is held in the horse arena at the fair grounds. The clowns go out and do a skit or two in front of the whole audience. At first I thought that it would be scary but it’s actually really exhilarating. My mom and my dad are clowns too. My family is just a big bunch of clowns.

  17. Puzzles • I have a crazy puzzle ball. I can’t do the puzzles at all. Inside there’s a ball you roll around. You roll it forwards, backwards and upside down. • I roll a ball across a track. Sometimes I forget where I’m at. I must start from the beginning. I can feel my time is thinning. • This game is so addicting, but I must get back to work. This assignment is important; it’s one I cannot shirk. • This game is just so fun. I’ll play for a minute more, just one. • My mom does it too; she can’t get past the first one. Who really cares as long as she has fun. My dad is the best. He beats all the rest.

  18. Quiver • A quiver is a container that holds arrows. Archery is one of my favorite hobbies. I got my first bow when I was in cub scouts. I won it for selling a massive amount of popcorn for a fundraiser. It’s not a very good bow, but it’s still something I can practice with. Whenever I have some free time I like to go out back and shoot my bow. I have a huge styrofoam target to shoot at so I don’t hit our house. I am hoping to get a much nicer bow for Christmas.

  19. Ranger’s Apprentice • The Ranger’s Apprentice is one of my favorite book series. I have read the first, second and third books of the series and they were very enjoyable. I don’t read a lot, but these were some of the only books I didn’t want to put down. I started to read the fourth book, but I got side tracked with another book. There are ten or eleven books in the series so I still have a decent amount of books to dig through if I want to read them all. They are some of my favorite books and I hope to read them all.

  20. Scouting • Not a lot of people know this but I was actually a cub scout for a little while. I was a scout from kindergarten to the beginning of second grade, to be more precise. It was fun for those two years. My family moved and I just never found another troop. I did some pretty cool stuff while I was in there. I went on a camping trip, but it was kind of miserable. It was ok during the day but it was only about 40 degrees during the night. The coolest thing that happened while I was there was that I lost my tooth while eating some s’mores. I also made a couple cars for the pine wood derby races. They weren’t extremely fast but they did look pretty cool.

  21. Trumpet • I play the trumpet in the Durant Road Middle School 7th grade band. I also play In the Jazz Band and Pep Band. I’ve been playing for two years now. I played at one of the pep rallies and at a football game. It was pretty exciting and extremely loud. I have jazz band rehearsals every Tuesday after school. They are demanding but I enjoy the challenge. I never really liked listening to jazz but it’s certainly fun to play.

  22. Up, Up And Away • I have always been fascinated with kites. I live near a landfill that has recently been turned into a park. There is a huge hill that is perfect to fly kites on. Sometimes my dad will take me up there to fly kites on blustery days. He even got me a stunt kite that has two strings, which gives you a lot more control. You can actually steer it. I am so glad they converted the landfill into a park for everyone to enjoy.

  23. Victory, flawless • Finish him! Mortal Kombat is one of my favorite video games. I play it all the time. I played the original one and thought it was pretty fun. I got the newest one and fell in love with it! I played this game exclusively for a couple of weeks. My favorite character is Scorpion. He looks cool and has awesome mind powers. I haven’t had much time to play lately, but when I do I like to play online.

  24. Wolf Pack • I love the Wolf Pack! My whole family is huge North Carolina State fans. My sister’s boyfriend went to State. He has taken me to a couple of State baseball and basketball games. I hope to get to go to a football game soon. I plan on attending NC State after I graduate high school and playing trumpet in the marching band.

  25. X-mas • Christmas is my favorite holiday! I help put up the tree and decorations. I like shopping for other people’s gifts. My favorite part is getting up on Christmas morning, opening gifts and having a huge, delicious breakfast with my family. My mom is an outstanding cook and makes a ton of sausage and cream cheese croissants! I also track out after Christmas so I have plenty of time to enjoy my gifts before I have to head back to school.

  26. Yankee • I used to be a Yankee. I am not anymore but I was a long time ago. I was born in Akron, Ohio. I was six months old when my family moved to North Carolina. I was still a baby when we moved here so I don’t remember much about Akron. We try to get up there at least once a year to visit family. Whenever we do make it up there we find exciting stuff to do like seeing the Cleveland Indians play or visiting the Columbus Zoo.

  27. Zeke • My family had an amazing Halloween party. It consisted of food, thirty-five friends, ping-pong and an extremely large scarecrow. We named the scarecrow Zeke. Zeke isn’t your average scarecrow. Sure, he’s enormous and scary, and he’s made of pvc pipe and stuffed with newspaper. He has a pumpkin for a head and holds a machete. But when you initially see him, he gives you chills. When you stare at him you get so terrified that you just stand still. He is the cause of all your nightmares. I have to admit, Zeke is the most frightening thing my dad has ever built.

  28. Final Slide • I have had a very extraordinary life in many different ways. Different talents , a variety of hobbies, but most importantly, having a good life. I love my family, and they love me no matter what. They support me in everything I do. All of my friends are awesome. I try to spend as much time with them as I can. I just try to live my life to the fullest. I always try to be nice to people and most of the time, they are nice back. I try to choose my friends carefully, and they are pretty great. I try to do my best at everything I do, and I try to live the best life I can. That is what makes me extraordinary.
