  1. SAFETY in the CLASSROOM

  2. FIRE EXTINGUISHER Located next to the main classroom door. To be operated by the teacher only.

  3. FIRE ALARM Exit the room and turn right Proceed down the west stairwell Exit outside to the south parking lot Meet up with Ms. Messer and classmates at the rainwater collection barrel

  4. TORNADO DRILL Exit the classroom and go left Use the central stairs Go all the way down to the lower level of the school Our designated area is the hallway at the bottom of the steps on the lower level BE QUIET!

  5. LOCKDOWN Move to the balcony-side of the room Sit on the floor STAY CALM Wait until we are given the “All Clear” NO TALKING

  6. FIRST AID KIT Located on top of the classroom sink If you have an accident, tell Ms. Messer immediately Seek necessary treatments Avoid accidents all-together NO HORSEPLAY Concentrate on what you’re doing!

  7. X-ACTO KNIVES / BLADES PAY ATTENTION WHILE CUTTING Keep fingers away from the blade Don’t distract others using x-acto knives Always use cutting mats PROPER BLADE DISPOSAL Usually taken care of by Ms. Messer Put blade in proper disposal receptacle OR tape between two pieces of cardboard to throw away

  8. PAPER CUTTERS PAY ATTENTION WHILE CUTTING No arms or hands under blade Don’t assume blade will stay up by itself Watch long hair, loose clothing, headphone cords around paper cutter blade Always replace safety guard when finished cutting RECYCLE PAPER SCRAPS

  9. COMPASS Very sharp point Handle carefully!

  10. SCISSORS Always handle safely Remember – to keep blades in your fist when walking with them No running with them!

  11. MARKERS No sniffing!

  12. RUBBER CEMENT No sniffing! Don’t inhale for long periods of time No tasting or playing with! Make sure lids are on correctly! Clean up spilled glue immediately!

  13. BROKEN GLASS NEVER pick up with your hands! Use a broom and dustpan.
