  3. He either… • Shared the secrets of the gods with other mortals. • Killed and cooked his son, Pelops, who Tantalus then served to the gods. • Both versions are accepted, but most people use the cannibal story.

  4. The Punishment • Forced to stand in water that disappears when he bends to drink it. • Surrounded by food that moves just beyond his reach. • He can never eat and water he can never drink FOREVER! • Hence the word tantalize…

  5. Some questions to ponder… • What does Macbeth want to have control over? • What is Macbeth willing to do to have control? • Is man insatiable? If so, is it bad? • In your opinion, how does one achieve happiness?
