Project Basis & Goals • Utility company, ~6,000 assets • Desktops, servers, network devices (excludes apps) • Experienced difficulty discovering & tracking assets • Better change control needed – asset data is foundational • Cost concerns (software and hardware related) • Service level & security / access concerns • Formerly used Novell products (Zen) • Decided on CMDB Implementation Project w/ BMC • Already a big AR / Remedy user • Strong BMC discovery capabilities (agent & agentless) • Most mature CMDB in marketplace (including integrations) • Full BMC config. management suite can be implemented over time • Desktop, Laptop, Server, Apps, Virt. Machines, Network, etc. • Noted increasing integration in BMC portfolio was happening year over year • Previous internal integration efforts had failed -- too risky and $$

  3. Project Overview • Discovery Systems • BCAC (Marimba), ootb • ADDM, ootb • Atrium CMDB Build & Integration • Simple recon work with these products, AIE, ootb • Approximate Project Timeline (overall, not consulting) • 3 – 4 months for design, testing, initial discovery & CMDB integration • Expect 2 – 3 months for addition of configuration management for PCs • Migration from Novell • Internal Team • One BCAC admin, also manages Zen currently (1 FTE for CM) • One ADDM admin, also manages Remedy • Project manager (1 of several projects, though this project has high visibility) • Consulting Support Used: • Discovery / CM expert • CMDB / Recon expert • Part-time consulting project management (1/2 day / week)
