  1. Engineering Design and Development The Icing on the Cake! Presented by: Ashley Gregory, EDD Instructor Ritenour High School

  2. EDD – What is it? TEAMWORK RESEARCH DESIGN DEVELOPMENT PROBLEM SOLVING COMMUNICATION REAL LIFE!

  3. TEAMWORK • Students work on a design team for the entire year. • This process helps simulate a real-world workplace experience. • How students choose their teams is VERY important!

  4. RESEARCH • Students choose a problem that they could solve by creating an innovative product or process. • This stage requires a lot of research as students try to justify and validate not only their problem selection, but their preliminary design ideas.

  5. DESIGN • Students come up with their designs through a series of sketches, 3D Modeling, and building a mock-up.

  6. DEVELOPMENT • Students present their design ideas in order to get feedback on how they should proceed. • Students refine their designs.

  7. PROBLEM SOLVING • Students learn how to be good problem solvers through this process. • Even more important than solving a problem is being able to explain the process behind their decision-making.

  8. COMMUNICATION • The most beneficial aspect of this course is the communication piece: • Group • Instructor • Mentors • Peers • Target Market • Panel of Experts
