  4. Rotation: Earth rotates (spins) its axis causing day and night (24 hours) Revolution: Earth revolves around the sun in 1 year 2. What is the difference between Earth’s rotation and revolution? Night Day

  6. 4. What causes seasons • Seasons are caused by earths revolution and its tilted axis. As is revolves, part of the earth is either facing towards the sun or leaning away from the sun

  10. 1. What is the role of the Sun in the occurrence of the lunar cycle? • The sun illuminates the Moon’s surface in a predictable pattern creating moon phases

  11. 2. How long is one lunar cycle/moon’s revolution around earth? • 29.5 days – about a month

  15. 6. What does the term quarter moon mean? • Quarter moons are when we can see half of the lighted part of the moon. To us it looks like half of the moon is lit.

  18. 1. What affect does the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun have on Earth? • Gravitational Pull: The pull on the earth due to the sun, moon, and earth rotation on its axis which causes tides

  19. 2. What causes tides to occur on Earth? • The moon and the sun both have a gravitational pull on the earth, which pulls on the waters of the earth creating tides

  20. 3. What is a high tide? Low tide? • High Tide: Where the water levels rises twice a day • Low Tide: Where the water level falls twice a day • Both are caused by the gravitational pull from the moon and earth’s rotation

  21. Spring Tide: When the sun and the moon are both in line with the earth, they pull in the same direction, causing the greatest difference between high and low tides. Neap Tide: When the moon and the sun are at a 90 degree angle, they pull in different directions, causing the least amount of difference in high and low tides 4. What is a neap tide? Spring tide?
