  8. Jhon Anson Ford AmpitheaterCahuenga Blvd. East, Hollywood, 90058 The 1241-seat outdoor Ford Amphitheatre is set against a backdrop of cypresses and chaparral in the Hollywood Hills. It is relatively intimate: no patron is more than 96 feet away from the stage. Music, dance, film, theatre and family events are presented during the summer months. The Ford Amphitheatre Season is a program of the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. The John Anson Ford Amphitheatre is one of the oldest performing arts venues in Los Angeles still in use. The open-air amphitheatre sits on a 45-acre park-like setting in the Cahuenga Pass. It is now the home of the Ford Amphitheatre Season, a multi-disciplinary performing arts series running May through October, coordinated by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. 1993.

  9. The amphitheatre was built in 1920, but gradually deteriorated until the late County Supervisor John Anson Ford obtained funding for capital improvements several decades ago. The Pilgrimage Theatre was then renamed in his honor. It was used intermittently for Shakespearean theater, jazz concerts, and dance performances until former County Supervisor Ed Edelman revived the historic theatre with the creation of the Ford Amphitheatre Season (originally called "Summer Nights at the Ford") in 1993. Between 1995 and 2000, $4.3 million in capital improvements were made to the stage, backstage, and public areas of the Ford complex, including a $1.6 million renovation of the entryway. One of the goals of these renovations was to make the facility completely ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant. These capital investments by the County of Los Angeles continue to bring the historic site up to modern safety, access and performance standards for the enjoyment of all.

  10. Since its founding in 1994 by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, the Ford Theatre Foundation, an independent not-for-profit organization, has been dedicated to supporting the performing arts and education activities that are presented by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre. In addition to raising funds for the Ford's performing arts and education programs, one of the Foundation's most important functions is to present a growing number of innovative performing arts programs at the Ford, programs designed to address the specialized needs of local audiences. 12. Art and Culture WorkshopTaller Arte y Cultura The Art and Culture Workshop -Taller Arte y Cultura- is an artistic and cultural organization devoted to the study, research, education, and promotion, of the art and culture of Latin America. For the last twenty years, the group has devoted its energy and time working in establishing liaisons between artists, cultural organizations, media, and the communities of both Latin America and Southern California to develop artistic, cultural, and educational initiatives, which in turned have benefited both the artists and the communities they serve. Over time, the Art and Culture Workshop has worked with public and private organizations, among them: the San Juan Capistrano Regional Library in its Multicultural Performing and Visual Arts Festival, the Orange County Public Library, the Bowers Museum; the cities of Los Angeles, Santa Ana, and San Juan Capistrano; the Los Angeles High School for the Arts, and Santa Ana Valley High School. The workshop has also been sponsored by the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, the California Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts in many of its ongoing projects.

  13. More than 50 artistic and cultural events have been produced, among them, the First Encounter of Andean Music, in Los Angeles, and both the First and Second Music and Dance Festivals of the Americas in 1998 and 2000 held at the Barclay Theater in UCI, California. The Art and Culture Workshop was instrumental in the development of the San Juan Capistrano Regional Library's Multicultural Art Series, and the library winning the Dana Cotton Award in 1996, a merit given nationally to the library with outstanding community programs. Along with Beyond Limits, another non-profit organization, the Art and Culture Workshop has worked to bring music and art to programs of prevention, motivation, education, and cultural ex-change, to at risk high school students in the native communities of the Navajos, -in Arizona. This program provides the youth with education and awareness about their realities and their environment, and fosters physical and mental exercises, -which in turn helps better interpersonal relationships and human respect. In the field of communications Art and Culture has published a literary magazine, and produced musical videos of Southern Californian musicians, and documentaries about the realities of Colombia.

  14. Art and Culture believes that as both the artist community and the communities that they serve grow and develop, it becomes urgent to develop newer and larger strategies in filling the gap for newer needs and growing demands. In this way, we contribute to maintaining a healthy environment and a better understanding between our communities.
