  1. The Seven Wonders Rosa Chaparro

  2. The Colossus of Rhodes The Colossus of Rhodes is familiar to almost everyone. Its history begins with the siege of Demetrios Poliorketes, successor of Alexander the Great, in 305 BC. When Demetrios was defeated, he abandoned all his siege machinery on Rhodes. The Rhodians decided to express their pride by building a triumphal statue of their favourite god, Helios. The task was assigned to the sculptor Chares of Lindos, a pupil of Lysippos himself, and twelve years were needed to complete it.

  3. The Great Pyramid of Giza The Great Pyramid is the most remarkable building in existence on the face of our planet today. It was built with such precision that our current technology cannot replicate it. This pyramid is so precisely constructed that until recently (with the advent of laser measuring equipment) scientists were not able to discover some of its subtle symmetries (not to mention duplicate them). Among other aspects, there are also very exact geometric relationships between all the structures in the pyramid complex at Giza.

  4. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon the Hanging Gardens of Babylon would be the second oldest of the ancient wonders. Built in the 6th century, the gardens are long gone. Some scholars argue that the reason there's no record of them is precisely because they were gardens -- plants and flowers are living things that eventually die. Even if the structure on which the gardens were affixed remains, it could very well be in unrecognizable ruins.

  5. the lighthouse of alexandria This light house of Alexandria was one of the wonders among all the seven wonders of the world, which was constructed to serve a practical purpose. Besides being a marvelous example of architectural elegance, it ensured a safe return for the sailors to the Great Harbor. The mirror that was mounted at the top of the lighthouse could reflect light more than 35 miles off-shore. The scientists were fascinated by this mysterious mirror

  6. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus served as the burial tomb for King Mausolus. The King married his sister Artemisia. After the King passed away, Artemisia ordered the building of the tomb in his memory. Mausolus was the son of Hecatomnus who ruled the Mediterranen coast of Asia minor with a small kingdom. Mausolus continued with the expansion of the kingdom after the demise of his father. Though he was not an illustrious ruler like his father, nevertheless he ruled the kingdom for 24 long years, with Halicarnassus as his capital. The only thing worthy of any notice during his pretty long tenure was the exquisite mausoleum built in his honor and which earned a place among the seven wonders of the world.

  7. the statue of zeus at olympia The Statue of Zeus at Olympia is rightfully regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This marvelous work of art was carved out by the famous sculptor Phidias in the 5th century BC. It was carved on a seated platform and the entire width of the aisle was exclusively built to house the statue, which was 40 feet (12 meters) high.

  8. The Temple of Artemis is located on the west coast of modern Turkey, south of Selcuk county about 50 km south of Smyrna. This place was called Ephesus during ancient times. The God Artemis in Ephesus is a goddess of fertility. This earliest temple supposedly contained a sacred stone, probably fallen from Jupiter. In some instances Artemis is linked closely to the Roman goddess, Diana. She also is goddess of night, fruitfulness, childbirth, beasts, bull and an eternal virgin. The temple was so huge and magnificent that it took about 120 years to build it. Referred to as the great marble temple it was sponsored by the Lydian king Croesus and was designed by the Greek architect Chersiphron.
