5. Have a bad connection? • Headphones, chargers, etc.

6. What to do – bad cable • Step 1: Cut off the bad tip/connector close to the thick part (unless you want shorter headphones).

7. What to do – bad cable • Step 2: Strip the wires ¼ - ½ inch.

8. What to do – bad cable • Step 3: Put on your connector and heat shrink (if you want to use it).

10. What to do – bad cable • Step 5: Hold the wires together and use the soldering iron to heat the solder that was already tinned and join the wires. Heat shrink inside as well for more stability

17. What to do – Changing a car tire • Step 1: Make sure that you are safe! • Don’t make any sudden movements (turns, braking, accelerating), stay calm! Ease off the road. • Only change your tire if you are safely off of the road and out of traffic. • Put on your flashers and emergency brakes. • If the area is not flat, put a heavy object (if possible) in front of/behind the appropriate tire (depending on the hill).

23. What to do – Changing a car tire • Step 6: Remove the lug nuts. • They should be nice and easy since you already loosened them • DON’T LOSE THEM!

25. What to do – Changing a car tire • Step 8: Put the lug nuts on. • First by hand then lug wrench. • Tighten until firm but not too tight! • “Al dente” if you are Italian • Why?*

30. Car Battery Dead? • How do you know? • Engine does not crank

31. But wait! • Sometimes it can just be due to corrosion or dirt. • If this is the case clean it with a wire brush or some alternate, safe method.

32. Always have jumper cables!

33. What to do – Car Battery Dead • Make sure both cars are off. • Make sure (4) is on clean, unpainted metal surface under the disabled car’s hood. • DON’T connect the negative cable to the negative terminal of the dead battery!

What to do – Car Battery Dead • Start the live car and let run for a couple minutes. • Start the newly revived dead car! • Remove the cables in reverse order (4-3-2-1). • Let your car run for a while (30 min if possible) to recharge the battery so you won’t have to repeat this! • Or just use a charger if you have one. 35. How to Jump Start a Car Without Cables If you have a standard transmission car, you can jump start that bad boy without using cables. Here’s how you do it: • 1. Find a stretch of clear downhill road. • 2. Fully depress the clutch and put the car in first gear. • 3. Turn the ignition to on. • 4. Take your foot off the brake and start rolling down the hill, leaving the clutch fully depressed. • 5. Coast down the hill until you reach 5 or 7 miles per hour. • 6. Release the clutch quickly. You should feel the engine turn and start. If it doesn’t start the first time, depress the clutch and release it again. • 7. If you don’t have a hill, get some of your buddies to give you a push and follow the steps above. • *Not tested by me so no promises! 36. How to check your oil • Make sure car is level. • Most accurate when engine cold. • Open hood (usually towards the front of car). • Find and pull out dipstick (usually labeled). • Wipe or lick oil off dipstick. • Put dipstick completely back in.

37. How to check your oil • Pull the dipstick back out. • If oil is below the line (sometimes marked full), you need to add oil. • Add oil into oil reservoir. • Don’t add too much! • Easier to add more than take out. If ever unsure, see car manual

38. How to unclog a drain • Method 1: Use Drano or similar product. OR Put baking soda then vinegar into the drain, cover the drain until the reaction is mostly completed. Let sit for 30 minutes and then flush with hot water.

39. How to unclog a drain • Method 2: Try using a plunger. If that doesn’t free the clog then use a snake/auger or a metal clothes hanger.

40. How to unclog a toilet • First off, if the toilet looks like it is going to over flow, TURN OFF the water! • Secondly, if it smells, spray air freshener!

41. How to unclog a toilet • Use a plunger. • Make sure the plunger is covered in water (you might need to add some). • Use force down AND up. • If that doesn’t work, use a coat hanger or snake/auger.

42. How to fix a toilet’s innards • What is all of that stuff? • How does it work?

43. How to save wet electronics • QUICK! Take out the battery! • Dry it off with a towel as thoroughly as possible. • Use a vacuum to suck out any excess water. • Hair dryer okay? • Submerge in something with a high affinity for water (a soaker-upper). Rice or silica gel are good choices. • Leave at least overnight • Salt Water Note*
