  2. Synopsis Het waargebeurde, noodlottige verhaal van de Donner Party komt tot leven in een opwindende mix van archeologie, geschiedenis, moord en spanning. Oude botten is het begin van een bloedstollende nieuwe serie van thrillerschrijvers Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. Nora Kelly, een jonge curator bij het Santa Fe Instituut voor Archeologie, wordt benaderd om een expeditie te leiden naar het zogeheten ‘verloren kamp’ van de Donner Party: een groep pioniers die in 1847 ingesneeuwd raakte in de Californische bergen en overging tot kannibalisme om te overleven. Wanneer het lang verloren kampement wordt gevonden en de botten worden blootgelegd, blijkt dat kannibalisme destijds nog maar het begin was. Ondertussen onderzoekt junior FBI- agent Corrie Swanson nieuwe moorden en verdwijningen die met deze Donner Party te maken hebben. Maar het lijkt er al snel op dat Swansons eerste onderzoek zo maar eens haar laatste zou kunnen zijn.
