  2. As a science teacher, you know there are thousands of ways to incorporate the internet into your classroom, so what holds us back? It's really not just to find lesson ideas!

  3. What are the most common reasons for not using the internet to its potential? - I only have limited computers in my room. - I don't have time to incorporate this into my instructional block. - I don't have time to find resources.

  4. Don't worry... We are going to address all of these today!

  5. I have limited computers in my room... WEBCAMS FIELD TRIPS

  6. Why webcams and field trips? These offer experiences for children that they will probably not have on their own. They also offer possibilities for engagement that you cannot offer in the "real world." They can be managed on individual computers in a center, as a team activity, or on a SCAM or LCD projector.

  7. Let's take a field trip... 5th grade students study different eecosystems and their contributions toward the health of the environment. What better way to learn about the estuary than a visit to Long Island Sound! Provide an activity Visit an estuarium

  8. What about some time on "stakeout" ? Kindergarten students should observe behaviors of several common animals.

  9. Pig Cam Wolf Cam Deer Cam Duck Cam

  10. But how do I fit it into my instructional block? - This varies based on your schedule. - self-contained (K-2 and 3-5) - 60 / 90 minute blocks - short time allowed for science

  11. I am self-contained (K-2) - Morning Work - Use a webcam as part of your morning meeting/circle time - Centers - Computer Lab (more guided) - SCAM / LCD

  12. I have a set block of time (departmentalized) - Use observation time as homework (give extra credit) - Ongoing assignment… students have a deadline for completion and everyone must finish by a certain time - Unit wrap up - Computer lab (sign up for additional time)

  13. I am self-contained (3-5) - Morning work - “I’m finished” work - Partner activities - Centers - Whole Group (instead of a video, take a trip) - Homework (remember, these are accessible anywhere) - Unit Wrap Up (2 day session where internet activity is combined with paper/pencil activity on rotating basis) - Integrated science field trips/webcams into literature connections and instruction of technology standards - Use your SCAM / LCD projector

  14. Integrating Science with other subjects... connecting technology and books magazines Math ~ Social Studies ~ Literature

  15. I don't have time to find resources... www.ikeepbookmarks.com/webofscience

  16. Be brave. Be creative. Envision the possibilities. Any questions?
