  5. The Strategy... • The University of Cambridge International Certificate (iGCSE) • 40% Exam • 40% COURSEWORK! • 20% Speaking and Listening • AND a Literature GCSE • One Exam These are both recognised GCSEs by Post-16 settings and Universities.

  6. Benefits? • Everyone now receives 2 GCSEs in English • Draft and re-draft of coursework • (only 3 pieces to do!) • Both courses offer A* to G grades

  7. Work Experience

  8. The purpose of Work Experience Employability and Key Skills • Skills and attitudes required. • Showing a positive attitude. • Developing, practising and assessing key skills: ICT, controlling risk, working with others.

  9. The purpose of Work Experience Careers Education & Guidance • Gaining insight into the world of work andhow that may relate to your choice of career. • It can lead to employment quicker than youmight expect.

  10. The purpose of Work Experience Personal and Social Development • Increased maturity • Self-confidence • Motivation

  11. The purpose of Work Experience: General topics and themes • Covering parts of the National Curriculumthat are hard to cover: health and safety,economic and business issues, citizenship.

  12. The purpose of Work Experience • If you are doing Horticulture or Health & SocialCare you will be investigating real examples of work places for coursework now, and in the future.

  13. Decision time • Own placements deadline in Friday 12th • Family business • You know your career path • You want to be in control • You want to save being disappointed at thelast minute • If you change your mind you will be askedto pay a fee

  14. Develop • We are now using a company called ‘Develop’. They are based in Ampthill near Bedford but work with businesses in MK. • The website is http://develop.learnaboutwork.net/

  15. What happens now? OWN PLACEMENT • Check that all is well and check travel. You willget a contract in December. The placement is still risk assessedby Develop. SCHOOL PLACEMENT – DEVELOP SYSTEM • Students/parents will be given login details by letter. • The system goes ‘live’ on Thursday 25thSeptember at 5.00 pm. • The student selects 2 jobs and 1 generic job. When the job hasbeen selected it will disappear from the system. • Once the process has been completed print off the form and take totutor at school. The reference is is then completed and handed to MrsRickson in B 101. • The job is not guaranteed.

Year 10 are working on…. • Continuing to developing learning talents relevantto learning and work experience • Promoting and supporting independence,responsibilityand accountability • Correctly recording homework in planner and completing it by the due date • Controlled Assessment tasks in a variety of subjects • Attitude & Effort • Reading around subjects • Career talks and planning for the future with arange of support from outside speakers and targetgroup/mentoring activities

Key activities and dates: • Year 10 pupils will continue to need the help ofadults at home to support them in completinghomework and planning/prioritisingtheirworkload. • A booklet containing key dates for subjects willcome home soon. • Key activities: • Controlled Assessments – departments • Careers and Work Experience talks • BuckdenTowers (15th-17th October) • Longrigg (3rd – 7th November) • Mentoring Day 25th November
