  2. Literary Devices in The Iliad • Media Res- the story begins “in the middle of things” • Stock Epithet- a phrase repeatedly used to describe a character • Foreshadowing- clues or hints about the plot events to come • Theme- universal ideas or life lessons

Vocabulary from Books 1 and 6-Write down the word-create a sentence- draw a picture to represent the sentence • incensed adj. very angry; enraged • plunder v. to rob by force in warfare • sacrosanct adj. very holy; sacred • brazen adj. shamelessly bold • harrowed v. distressed; tormented • bereft adj. deprived or taken away
