2. Welcome The Indianapolis Urban League is the nation’s oldest and largest social service and civil rights organization. The dedicated team at Indianapolis Urban League (IUL) is committed to providing direct services that help individuals and communities help themselves. In 2014, we provided services to 18,929 individuals and families in 5 central Indiana Counties. However, each year the disparity gap grows exponentially in the Indianapolis community. Building upon the legacy of past presidents Sam Jones and Joseph Slash, the IUL is uniquely positioned in the community and has a demonstrated track record of addressing many of the most difficult issues facing the underserved populations in Marion County. With the support of the Indianapolis community, we will continue to provide training and resources to make our families stronger and our community a better place to live. 3. MISSION The mission of the National Urban League movement is to enable African-Americans to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights. The Indianapolis Urban League’s mission is to assist African-Americans, other minorities and disadvantaged individuals to achieve social and economic equality. HISTORY Established in 1910, the National Urban League is the nation’s oldest and largest community-based movement devoted to empowering African-Americans to enter the economic and social mainstream. Today, the National Urban League, headquartered in New York City, spearheads the non-partisan efforts of its local affiliates. There are 95 local Affiliates of the National Urban League located in 35 states and the District of Columbia providing direct services to more than two million people nationwide through programs, advocacy and research. The Indianapolis Urban League (IUL) was founded in 1965 as a non-profit, non-partisan, interracial community-based social service/civil rights organization. IUL is one of 95 Affiliates with the National Urban League. The Indianapolis Urban League is funded by the United Way of Central Indiana, individuals, organizations, businesses, government bodies as well as public and private foundations. The IUL was founded by the late Thomas W. Binford and the late Atty. Henry J. Richardson, Jr. The late Sam H. Jones, served as President & CEO of the IUL from 1966 to 2002. In 2002, Joseph A. Slash became the 2nd President of the Indianapolis Urban League leading the organization for 12 years. Anthony “Tony” Mason joined the league as it’s 3rd President in the organizations 50 year history in 2014. The Indianapolis Urban League Case for Support 4

OUR IMPACT Who and how we serve: •Our Project Ready College Readiness Program graduated 96% of its participants confirming that we play an essential role in preparing students for life after high school at George Washington and Thomas Carr Howe High Schools; •Our Workforce Development Department served over 1800 clients and prepared over 400 underemployed, unemployed and ex-offenders for potential employment opportunities with over 50 preferred employers through our New Beginnings Program. Not only are we helping clients develop job skills, we are helping them to secure employment with job placement rate of 85%; •Our Special Populations Support Program (SPSP) provided HIV/STD education, screenings and wrap around services for over 1,000 individuals many of whom are HIV positive with substance abuse and/or mental health concerns; and •Our I Need You to Listen Hear Understand Me (INYLHUM) Program provided critical messages to over 1,500 middle school and high school students enabling them to make healthy, positive behavioral choices by educating them on anti-bullying and sexual behaviors. IUL assisted nearly 1,400 individuals and families in Marion County with food, shelter, and utilities. The Indianapolis Urban League Case for Support 6

THE CHALLENGE According to National KIDS COUNT, Indianapolis has one of the fastest-growing rates of child poverty in the nation second only to Detroit, Michigan.* Indianapolis ranks 48th among the largest cities in the US in upward mobility. This indicates citizens of Indianapolis who live in poverty remain in poverty. ** The poverty rate among African Americans and Hispanics in Indianapolis is 29.0% and 39.6% respectively. ** 32.4% of the population in Indianapolis have a minimum of a high school education or less.** The current unemployment rate in Marion County is 5.8%***, but among African Americans the unemployment rate is nearly quadrupled at 20%. ** United Way notes that low education and employment, combined with many families paying over 40% of income for housing, high foreclosure rates, poor transit options for work and low asset wealth threatens the stability of many Central Indiana Families.**** *National KIDS COUNT http://datacenter.kidscount.org/data **The Equality Opportunity Project http://equality-of-opportunity.org ***http://factfinder.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/community_facts.xhtml ****Marion County Health Assessment 2014 p.9 The Indianapolis Urban League 7

SOLUTIONS: THE IUL STRATEGY To tackle the issues that create these dire statistics, the Indianapolis Urban League employs an innovative and proven successful five-point strategy, tailored to local needs, to implement the mission of our movement: • Education and Youth Empowerment: Ensuring that all of our children are well-educated and prepared for economic self-reliance in the 21st century through the following programs. • Economic Empowerment: Empowering all people to attain economic self-sufficiency through job training, good jobs, homeownership, entrepreneurship and wealth accumulation. • Health and Quality of Life Empowerment : Working to build healthy and safe communities to eliminate health disparities through prevention, healthy eating, fitness, as well as access to affordable healthcare for all people. • Civic Engagement and Leadership Empowerment : Empowering all people to take an active role in determining the direction, quality of life, public policy and leadership in their communities by full participation as citizens and voters, as well as through active community service and leadership development. • Civil Rights and Racial Justice Empowerment : Promoting and ensuring our civil rights by actively working to eradicate all barriers to equal participation in all aspects of American society, whether political, economic, social, educational or cultural. YOUR COMMITMENT MATTERS Your Commitment Changes Lives And Empowers Our Community • Investing $50,000 provides training for the unemployed, underemployed and returning citizens of Indianapolis. • Investing $35,000 provides leadership and direction related to professional and career development of IUL’s Young Professionals. • Investing $25,000 provides 50 middle school and high school students with critical training to help them graduate and pursue secondary degrees. • Investing $10,000 provides high school students the opportunity to engage in healthy relationship training. STRATEGY: EDUCATION AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT EDUCATION AND YOUTH EMPOWERMENT IUL works to ensure that all of our children are well-educated and prepared for economic self-reliance in the 21st century through the following programs: IUL Project Ready College Readiness Project Ready, a National Urban League initiative, is a year-long program designed to prepare 9th through 12th grade students for college. The evidence-based Project Ready curriculum developed jointly by the National Urban League and the City University of New York (CUNY) is comprised of three (3) major components: 1) Academic Development 2) Social Development, 3) Cultural and Global Awareness. IUL Project Ready STEM Project Ready has also been modified to serve 7th and 8th grade students as they transition to high school. These modifications occurred in conjunction with the development of a Project Ready STEM Curriculum Guide, similarly designed by the National Urban League and CUNY to promote interest in careers in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields. I Need You to Listen Hear and Understand Me (INYLHUM) The INYLHUM tour is a youth empowerment program that engages elementary, middle and high schools along with area churches. Our annual goal is to reach 1,000 students with messages and tools that aid in making positive life choices. The program focuses sexual health and anti-bullying. 11. STRATEGY: ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT IUL staff reaches out to people of all ages and financial levels, helping them better their current situation and build for the future. While personal goals can often seem out of reach – whether it’s getting a good job, buying a house, starting a business or being financially secure – IUL counselors can lay out the steps to help make them a reality.Focusing in the main areas of jobs and job training, home ownership and affordable housing, financial literacy, technology training and entrepreneurial growth and opportunity, IUL provides programs such as: New Beginnings New Beginnings Program helps individuals, age 18 and older transition from assistance, incarcerations, unemployment or underemployment to self-sufficiency. CARE (Community Access and Reentry Effort) The CARE Program provides services to disadvantaged young adults (18-30) with non-violent, non-sexual felony offenses who are transitioning back to the community and are in need of employment. Skilled Workforce Development – Employment Assistance IUL responds to the needs of minority, poor and disadvantaged residents to secure and maintain self-supporting employment. IUL provides skills assessment, employment readiness training, and employment assistance for hard to employ and under-employed residents of Indianapolis. STRATEGY: HEALTH AND QUALITY OF LIFE EMPOWERMENT HEALTH AND QUALITY OF LIFE Not only is the African-American community more susceptible and less likely to recover from certain illnesses than other groups, there is an alarming lack of affordable healthcare available to help them do so. To overcome these hurdles, the Indianapolis Urban League offers the following programs: Remarkable Woman/Saving Our Sons Remarkable Woman/Saving Our Sons are a national diabetes and obesity prevention program developed by Pfizer. The program targets African-Americans and other people of color between the ages of 18-80. The program promotes healthy lifestyles; improve access to and use of healthcare services and other community support. Special Populations and Support Services – HIV/AIDS, Substance Abuse and Mental Health IUL, in collaboration with the Indiana State Department of Health, Project Renew, Prisoner’s Reform United, Marion County Health and Hospital Corporation and Community Centers of Indianapolis (CCI) provides mental health and/or substance abuse treatment services for residents of Indianapolis and Marion County. The program Positive Directions, is a substance abuse program targeted at individuals who may be dually or triply diagnosed with a substance abuse disorder, HIV/AIDS and/or mental disorders. STRATEGY: CIVIC ENGAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP EMPOWERMENT CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP EMPOWERMENT As a non-partisan organization, the Indianapolis Urban League and Urban League volunteer groups such as the Council of Guilds and the Young Professionals work to communicate the message that the right to vote is a powerful tool to effect changes important to the individual, the community and the world.Below is a list of the programs and volunteer groups at the IUL working in this area: IUL The Exchange– Tomorrow’s Leaders Today: The Exchange is an auxiliary organization dedicated to bringing the next generation of leaders into the Urban League movement. Its members, ages 21 to 45, work to advance the Urban League agenda through corporate, social and community activism. The IUL is committed to providing leadership training development and opportunities to network for tomorrow’s leaders today. African-American Community Leadership Coalition: The Indianapolis Urban League serves as a convener and facilitator of meetings of the leadership for major organizations serving the African American communities. The on-going dialogue fosters development of consensus and formulates agenda for community forums. The Indianapolis Urban League Case for Support 13

STRATEGY: CIVIL RIGHTS AND RACIAL JUSTICE EMPOWERMENT CIVIL RIGHTS AND RACIAL JUSTICE EMPOWERMENT Since its inception in 1910, the National Urban League and its local affiliates have been at the forefront of the civil-rights movement, and continue that leadership and advocacy role today. With key programs focused on empowering African-Americans to achieve equality in all aspects of American life, the Indianapolis Urban League (IUL) builds the bridges that will close the equality gap for all people.The Indianapolis Urban League advocates for social justice and closely monitors the economic, political and social climate of the community, interprets the findings, and recommends active policy for change. Locally, the IUL advocates with programs such as: Race and Cultural Relations Leadership Network IUL hosts a monthly meeting where community leadership and citizens come together to discuss issues of race and ethnicity in our community. Participants in this monthly meeting include representative of the Mayor’s office, local law enforcement, U.S. Justice Department and Indiana Civil Rights Commission. In response to the Ferguson verdict, the IUL co-hosted a press conference with the RCRLN in partnership with Indiana Black Expo, Inc., the NAACP, Visit Indy and faith-based leaders to urge Indianapolis community residents to remain calm and to exercise their right to demonstrate through peaceful protest. Additionally, the IUL and the National Urban League issued statements regarding the verdicts in the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases. The Indianapolis Urban League Case for Support 14

FUNDRAISING EVENTS The Board of Directors and the leadership of the Indianapolis Urban League are committed to moving forward to support each one of the programs to meet the needs of the underserved in Indianapolis. To that end, there is a focus on philanthropy from Indianapolis individuals, corporations, and foundations. Equal Opportunity Day The Indianapolis Urban League’s signature event recognizes champion corporations, individuals and organizations the encapsulate the principles of equal opportunity, civil rights, and social justice. This event includes a half day professional development workshop followed by the Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon. IUL Back-to-School Block Party Contributions defray the expenses of providing backpacks, educational flyers and materials, food and entertainment to Block Party guests. The backpacks and supplies lessen the economic burden of adequately preparing children for school. IUL Sam H. Jones Golf Outing This event supports general operating funds for the organization. IUL assists nearly 20,000 residents a year with much needed support to reach social and economic equality. 50th Anniversary Kick-Off Ebony and Ivory Gala This event honors outstanding community leaders who best exemplify the Urban League’s Commitment to an inclusive society by creating opportunities and building bridges between diverse communities. 18. BCH/McDonalds and the Indianapolis Urban League The Urban League Movement and McDonalds have enjoyed a long standing partnership. 20. WAYS TO GIVE There are many ways that you may help to support our vision for the future. Because IUL is relying on your generous support and leadership to move forward our movement, we urge you to consider the following methods of giving: • Gifts of cash: an outright gift of cash for which the donor receives an income tax deduction as prescribed by current law. Pledging your gift over a multi-year period may allow you to make a more substantial gift, while affording you the opportunity to adjust the timing and amount of each payment to achieve the most beneficial tax treatment. • Gift of appreciated publicly traded securities: a gift of stocks or bonds that are (or will be) readily marketable. The deduction for outright gifts of appreciated long-term securities (held more than twelve months) is equal to the fair market value of the securities on the date the donor relinquishes control of the assets to IUL. None of the appreciate is taxable for capital gains purposes. The stock should not be sold, rather, it should be transferred to IUL to achieve the most advantageous tax treatment. • Corporate matching gifts: these gifts will be encouraged and credited to the donor as described by the matching gift arrangement. Donors should supply the necessary forms to IUL with the appropriate pledge documentation and contributions.
