  2. Frog Pineal Gland ~ found in vertebrates; part of endocrine system Produces serotonin, a hormone that affects the modulation of wake/sleep patterns and seasonal photoperiodic functions Found in lamprey - primitive vertebrate. Not found in alligator – lost in evolution

Limbic System Paleomammalian brain A complex set of brain structures that lies on both sides of the thalamus, right under the cerebrum. • Collection of structures from the telencephalon, diencephalon and mesencephalon . • Includes the hippocampus,amygdala, anterior thalamic nuclei, septum, habenula, limbic cortex and fornix. • Supports a variety of functions, including emotion, behavior, motivation and long term memory, and olfaction. • Primarily responsible for our emotional life. • Critical role in the formation of memories.

  5. Emotion !!!!! Involves the entire nervous system. Two parts of the nervous system are especially significant: Limbic system Autonomic nervous system: Sympathethic Nervous System and Parasympathetic Nervous System

  6. Tectumis responsible for auditory and visual reflexes. Part of midbrain

  7. Tectum means roof
