IMPORTANT DATES • Soccer Camp Hosted by WHS Boys Soccer • 10 Jun – 13 Jun 2013 (8:00 am – 12:00 pm) • Summer Training (10 June – 28 June 2013) • Goalkeepers (6:00 pm – 7:15 pm) • Field Players (6:00 pm – 7:15 pm) • Scrimmage (7:15 pm – 8:30 pm) • Musselman High School Scrimmage Fest • Saturday, 15 Jun 2013 • 7 v 7 (two teams - older (based on varsity experience then age) and younger) • $20.00 per player (first 20 players to sign up)

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY • Complete athletic physical • Must be signed by a parent and the physician • Must have been performed after 1 June 2013 • Will remain on file with the Athletic Trainer • Free Physicals are given at Harpers Ferry Family Medicine on Friday prior to Summer Training • Med Express Urgent Care is now offering $20.00 sports physicals for student-athletes • Athletic Questionnaire • Insurance waiver • Signed copy of WHS athletic handbook • Will be provided by Coach or AD after selection

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY • Copy of previous semesters Report Card • Signed Medical Card • Will be provided at tryouts by Coach or Trainer • Must be enrolled in Washington High School • Must have received at least 2.0 GPA the previous semester • Any player under a 2.5 GPA may be subject to attend a mandatory study hall (days and times are TBA) • We have maintained one of the highest GPA in school

  13. ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY • Must attend at least 4 periods to participate in Practice or Games • Must have attended 7 practices before participating in a scrimmage and 14 practices before playing in a real game

Team Rules • OSS equals no contact with team during suspension and subject to additional restrictions • Additional game suspensions • Removal from team • ISS equals no game/no practice that day but the player is required to attend • Any disciplinary action taken in school will result in a loss of playing time or suspension from team • NEW: If player misses practice day before game they will not be allowed to play the next day • Exception: tutoring or school activity related

Team Rules • Players will wear dress pants, dress shirt, and tie on game days • If your hair is in your eyes you will get it cut or wear a hair band on the field • Players MUST ride the bus to and from away games • Exception: The Athletic Director receives a note from a parent at least a day prior to the trip • Exceptions would include: family emergency, college visit

Team Goals • Set the example for all athletes at WHS • Applying what it means to relentlessly pursue excellence • Motivating the team to believe in themselves • Laying a foundation for how to play the game • Maintain a disciplined approach to the game and in life • Develop character through hard work “ACCOUNTABILITY” = “SUCCESS” • Improve every time we step on the field

Lettering Requirements VARSITY - Letter • Play in ½ of total minutes or ½ the games • Be a member of the roster the entire season • Be in good standing with the team and school JV – Certificate • Play in 1/3 of total minutes or 1/3 the games • Be a member of the roster the entire season • Be in good standing with the team and school An attendance rate of 95% is required for all soccer activities to receive a letter or pin.   18. Coach’s Role • Coaches will: • Be a mentor • Facilitate plans and practices in a supervisory role • Instruct, Inspire, and Inform • Enforce sportsmanship & sport etiquette • Coaches will NOT: • Provide day care • Provide taxi service • Put an individual players needs over that of the team

PLAYER’S ROLE • Academics first… • Adhere to rules and policies • Show RESPECT for: School Officials, Teammates, Coaches, Referees, Opponents • Be supportive of the team and school • Practice sportsmanship and sport etiquette • Remain physically fit • Challenge yourself everyday • Oh and did I say ACADEMICS FIRST!

  20. PARENT’S ROLE • Support your son and other players • Be a positive “FAN” • Refrain from invading the designated team area at practice or during games • Participate in the Boosters to support the team • Drop off and pick up your student on time • Keep lines of communication open

Open Communication • Encourage your player to talk with the coaches if they don’t understand something or issues occur on the field • Let us coach… You may not understand why we made a decision and it prevents mixed signals • If you have a problem or issue you would like to discuss follow this etiquette: • Check with the player and ask if they have talked with the coaching staff • Never approach coaches if irritated. Please wait until the next day in order to reflect and calmly discuss • Will always be two coaches or AD in attendance • PLEASE… remember this is High School and playing time is NOT guaranteed on Varsity or JV

EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS • NOCSAE Approved Shin Guards • Cleats • Grass Fields (Firm Ground/Soft ground) • Turf Fields (Firm Ground/Turfs) • Under Armor • High School rules require the team to wear matching compression gear • White Compression Shirt and White Compression Shorts (Warm Weather) • White Compression Shirt and Black Long Leggings (Cold Weather) • Running Shoes for practice • Water bottle – Players WILL NOT be allowed to share a cup or bottle

Information for Varsity Players • This is a MUST for Juniors and Seniors: • Take your SAT and/or ACT • Register with the NCAA Clearinghouse • Provide your athletic and academic information for your player profiles • Begin contacting College(s) now • Find the schools that have your degree program of choice • I will contact coach if requested • Visit school and request meeting with coach • Seniors can schedule a work out with the team in the spring • Video Tape if we can get a parent or student to provide this service to our players

  24. Volunteers • Team requires the following assistance: • Team Manager (Student) • Announcer for Home Games • Statistician for all games (can travel with team) • Photographer • Videographer • BOOSTERS require help with their activities

  25. Conclusion WHS Boys Soccer program has been extremely successful in its first five years of existence because of the outstanding young men we have on our team and the support provided by their parents. I look forward to another GREAT year! Questions???
