  1. To wait, stay sidelined or transform? Discuss the survival way for the challenged fermented ethanol. 2013.5.22-5.24 China Soochow Conference Hotspots Focus: coal-to-ethanol successors ---- Of various production technologies, which is superior? Discussion: striving for survival in adversity ---- The way out for fermented ethanol • Facing the naked challenge from new production technologies, how should fermented ethanol deal with and make a breakthrough? • Though fermented ethanol still plays a vital role in the food sector, what’s its upcoming fate in the chemical application field with its share being occupied by coal-made ethanol? • We will discuss together and find the optimal way out for fermented ethanol. 2012-2015 Ethanol Capacity 1176.5 275 9550 9800 Attaching importance to feedstock side and tendency Traditional fermentation method (kt) • China corn yield in 2012 was 208.12 million mt, up by 15.34 million mt from 2011. Though corn output maintained high in 2004-2012, prices kept fluctuating upward within a certain range. • Imported volume of tapioca chips of 2012 reached 6.96 million mt in China with 4.64 million mt from Thailand and 2.08 million mt from Vietnam. Tapioca chips prices fluctuated within USD 220-250/mt FOB Thailand in 2012 and foreign tapioca chips quotations gained consistently after the Spring Festival holiday of 2013. • Ethanol enterprises are being inflicted by rising cost and sluggish downstream demand. We will concentrate on the future feedstock market tendency. Non-fermentation method (kt) 20122015 Looking for promising downstream industries • Edible white spirit suffered from consecutive setbacks and is gradually drawing to stagnation. • Demand from the dull chemical industry in China is difficult to increase. • Will the ethanol fuel policy be open? • Only supported by cost advantage, will ethanol produced by non-fermentation method win? • Where on earth is the exit of demand potential for the ethanol market?
