LANL in FY02 LANL • 6,800 U. of CA employees + 2,800 contractors • Annual budget of approx $1.2B (~$2B in ‘02) Eng Standards Program -- base budget = ~3 FTEs + IHS $ • 2 full-time engineers managing/ authoring • part-time admin/webmaster • part-time discipline Points-of-Contact • unpaid Tech Committee members

LANL Standards Program Products Online • LANL Engineering Manual (LEM) • Design Criteria -- Reqt’s and Guidance • 8 chapters by discipline -- General, Fire, Civil, Arch, Struct, Mech, Elect, I&C • Include Standard Details • LANL Construction Specs Manual (LCSM) • ~150 specs in CSI MasterFormat Div 1-16 • Drafting Manual (DM) • covers facility work • machine part drafting in another group’s manual

Initiatives Completed Since June 2001 -- Dallas Program • Scope expanded to add programmatic work • selected requirements noted for R&D/experiments • QA Plans and procedures added • to meet 10CFR830 Subpart A • Intro to Stds Training Course developed, teaching Eng Manual (LEM) • New std on system and component numbering • based heavily on nat’l stds • New I&C Chapter; Mech Chapter revised; Roof Std revised • General rev plus added/adding nuclear stds from DOE G 420.1-1, sustainable design, and endnotes to all chapters

  5. Completed Since June 2001 -- Dallas, Con’t Specs Manual • Roofing Specs issued • with thanks to some ESWOG members Drafting Manual • completely revised 10/2001 • Invoked aspects of Nat’l CAD Std • Added P&ID • Tweaked, added Record Floorplan info 6/2002

Completion Expected in FY03 Eng Manual • Fire, Civil, & Arch Chapters -- general revision/upgrade • Struct Chapter Rev • Add IBC2000, 1020-2000, endnotes, new material • Mech Chapter -- Adding SRS B31.3 Piping Guide • Electrical Chapter Revision • enhance telecon and utility (transmission, distribution) • add electrical schematics and connection dwgs • I&C Chapter Revision • add SRS ISA 84.01 and other I&C guidance material • New Security chapter

  7. Completion Expected in FY03, Con’t Specs • Begin Design-Build Performance Spec set upkeep • Glovebox-related Specs -- add • Add new specs, improve commissioning, test and inspection, sustainable design Drafting Manual • Add more content, general improvement, loop and logics, improved panel schedules, layouts, isometrics General • Create LANL-Wide Welding Program • only Construction Contractor has one now • write procedures, pilot, and roll out
