  1. Difficult Demands from God

  2. Daniel 3:16-18

  3. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you.

  4. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty.

  5. 18 But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

  6. James 4:4-10

  7. You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God?

  8. I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

  9. 5 What do you think the Scriptures mean when they say that the spirit God has placed within us is filled with envy?

  10. 6 But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.”

  11. 7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

  12. 8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.

  13. 9 Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy.

  14. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

  15. 1. Be differentthan the world around you

  16. James 4:4

  17. You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God?

  18. I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God.

  19. Different is not weird, it does not draw attention to oneself, it is not strange

  20. Different is taking a stand

  21. Different is taking some heat

  22. Daniel 3:18-19

  23. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

  24. 19 Nebuchadnezzar was so furious with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that his face became distorted with rage.

  25. He commanded that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual.

  26. John 15:18-21

  27. “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first.

  28. 19 The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.

  29. 20 Do you remember what I told you? ‘A slave is not greater than the master.’

  30. Since they persecuted me, naturally they will persecute you. And if they had listened to me, they would listen to you.

  31. 21 They will do all this to you because of me, for they have rejected the one who sent me.

  32. Be aware that God is a “fiercely jealouslover”

  33. James 4:5 (MSG)

  34. You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way. And do you suppose God doesn’t care?

  35. The proverb has it that “he’s a fiercely jealous lover.” And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find.

  36. Deut32:16

  37. They stirred up his jealousy by worshiping foreign gods; they provoked his fury with detestable deeds.

  38. Ex 20:5

  39. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods.

  40. I lay the sins of the parents upon their children; the entire family is affected—even children in the third and fourth generations of those who reject me.

  41. Ex 34:14

  42. You must worship no other gods, for the Lord, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.

  43. Jealousy is that God loves men with such a passionthat He cannot bear any other lovewithinthe heartof men

  44. II Tim 4:10

  45. Demas has deserted me because he loves the things of this life and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, and Titus has gone to Dalmatia.

  46. 3. Be humble

  47. James 4:6-7

  48. But he gives us even more grace to stand against such evil desires. As the Scriptures say, “God opposes the proud but favors the humble.”

  49. 7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
