Brief History of MDM in Odisha • Mid-Day Meal was started in the tribal Blocks of Odisha in 1970. • In 1990-91 the program was being implemented with state resources in combination with international assistance. • On 15th August 1995 Odisha was also covered under National Program of Nutritional Support to Primary Education, when cooked Mid-Day Meal was served to Primary school children of all Govt. & Govt. Aided schools • In compliance to the order of Hon’ble Supreme Court in PUCL case (2001) Mid-Day Meal is being served in all the Primary Schools both Govt. & Govt-Aided from 2004.

  15. Grievance Redressal Mechanism • Student Help Line bearing No.18003456722 • Personal Monitoring Information System (PMIS) directly reviewed by Commissioner-cum-Secretary S&M.E. Deptt. • Monthly Video Conference with district level MDM implementing officers on 11th of every month • Press Clips, News Items from print and electronic media on MDM are instantly attended to. • Grievance Redressal Cell open in OPEPA office and held on every working Monday and in DI office, DPC office in the field.

Transparency: • Joint account of SNO & F.A, S&ME Deptt. at SPMU • Joint account of DPC & D.I (Hqrs) at District level. • Jointaccount in all schools. • e-transfer of funds into joint account. • e-transfer of honorarium of cook-cum-helpers. • Weekly menu chart printed on the back page of the text books and painted on the school wall.

  17. MDM Social Audit-cum-Cooperation Day • On the SMC DAY . • Local NGOs, the mothers of the children, SMC can participate in MDM by contributing in shape of cash or kind. • On the same day the A/c, the quality and functioning of MDM can be audited socially. • Headmaster, WSHG to co-operate.
