  1. Blog 4: Globalrefininggroup.com HOW TO MAINTAIN YOUR CATALYTIC CONVERTER To give your catalytic converter a long healthy life, there are certain things that you have to ensure at your end. These include: 1.Never use exhaust paste in front of the vehicle for fixing the catalytic converter. Because when this exhaust paste hardens it can break off in pieces and destroy or block the monolith. 2.Use the correct fuel for your vehicle every time. 3.Don’t use any fuel additive before going through the instructions for finding out whether it is suitable for using with catalytic converter. Contact the manufacturer of the additive in case of any doubt. 4.Do not try to bash or tow start your car. As this may cause the unburned fuel to move into the catalytic converter, which overheats the monolith and melt it. 5.By no means try to pull anything which is too much heavy for your vehicle to deal with. For instance, pulling an overloaded caravan by your car while travelling downhill may actually push the car along.Which may send unburned fuel into the exhaust system causing the monolith to melt down. 6.Get your vehicle serviced regularly as per the specifications of the manufacturer. Ensure particularly that the engine is running smoothly. As an improperly tuned engine may cause the monolith to break down. 7.During heavy snowfall, be careful while driving through steep puddles, fords or parking. As the catalytic converters operate at very high temperature as such when it comes in direct contact with water or snow, it may cool down more speedily then the monolith and the monolith may be crushed. 8.Never park your car over long grass because the high temperature of the catalytic converter can actually set the grass on fire! 9.Do not drive at high speed over speed breakers and bumpy roads to prevent the exhaust system from being stranded and damaging the catalytic converter Just take these few simple precautions and your catalytic converter will last you longer then you had thought.
