  2. What is Narrative Writing? • A narrative is a story containing specific elements that work together to create interest for not only the author but also the reader.

  3. Elements of Narrative Writing PLOT • The who, what, where, when, why and how that gives the narrative direction. • Plots require an Exposition, Inciting Incident, Rising Action, Climax, Falling Action, and Resolution.

  4. Elements of Plot Structure • Exposition: The beginning of the story which sets the normal routine, or the status quo for the characters. • Inciting Incident: The first piece of action which interrupts the status quo for the characters. • Rising Action: Action that builds up throughout the story. Problems, or conflicts, with which the characters must overcome.

  5. Elements of Plot Structure • Climax: The moment at which the action in a story is the most intense, or the point of no return. • Falling Action: The part of the story where after the conflicts have been solved, the characters begin to establish a new status quo. • Resolution: Also call the Denouement, is how the story resolves and leaves the reader feeling satisfied.
