3. Concrete Poetry

4. Haiku Haiku is a Japanese poetry form with three lines. Usually haiku are written about nature. The first line has 5 syllables, the second line has 7 syllables, and the third line has 5 syllables. You will write three haiku all related to a similar topic. example: quiet and trembling Coco hates thunder and rain clear skies bring relief

5. Found Poem A found poem is made from words you “find” in newspapers, catalogs, or magazines. You get inspiration from the words and arrange them on a page with your own words mixed in. Sometimes poets like to play with the shape of these poems since the words are moveable.

6. Triolet A triolet is a short poetry form that uses rhyme and repetition. The first two lines are repeated as the last two lines. The rhyme scheme is A-B-A-A-A-B-A-B. example: Come, friend, forgive the past; I was wrong and I am grieving. Tell me that this break won’t last- take my hand; forgive the past. Anger’s brief, but love is vast. Take my hand; don’t think of leaving. Come, friend, forgive the past; I was wrong and I am grieving.

7. Free Verse Poem Free verse is poetry that uses different figurative language devices but DOES NOT use rhyme. Think about your topic or what you want to express. Then, create a list of words that would relate. Use a thesaurus. example: Crickets Talk In the tall Grass All Late summer Long. When Summer Is gone, The dry Grass Whispers Alone.

8. Explication When you find a poem that you really like, print it out or copy it. Then, write a paragraph that includes the following: title of poem, poet’s name, topic of poem, form of poem, analysis of poem’s figurative language devices, what you like most about the poem and why
