Ukraine and United Nations • Ukraine was a founding member of the United Nations along with the Soviet Union and the Soviet Republic of Belarus. • In 1997 Ukraine presided over the General Assembly during which a comprehensive programme of the UN reform was approved. • In over 25 years 37 000 Ukrainians participated in 20 UN international peacekeeping operations and missions

  3. Ukraine and United Nations • UN representative office was opened in Kyiv in 1992. • 17 agencies, funds, programmes & associated institutions operate in Ukraine. • The UN operates on invitation of the Government of Ukraine

Key areas of work in Ukraine • Humanitarian Response, including for conflict-affected regions and for internally-displaced persons (IDPs); • Recovery, stabilization and rehabilitation for the East and other regions;  • Supporting longer-term country-wide development and reforms to promote the rule of law and strengthen social stability and democratic governance; • Advising and assisting the Government of Ukraine on the implementation of recommendations from the UN human rights mechanisms, as well as those made through the reports of the UN Human Rights Mission in Ukraine.
