Background and funding • The Unit is a part of the Skills for Health ‘Skills Academy for Health’. • The Core Learning Unit (CLU) has delivered core learning programmes since Oct 2005. • There are now over 125,000 registered users. • Our programmes are funded by the Department of Health and the 10 Strategic Health Authorities in England. • Available free of additional charges, to NHS staff. • Some programmes free to Social Care.

  3. How to access – NHS Staff • Register online at www.corelearningunit.nhs.uk • Thanks to SHA funding registration is free for NHS trust, PCT and SHA staff in England • Staff must register with their NHS email

  5. Approach to NLMS • Core Learning Unit programmes are hosted on the National Learning Management System. • All Core Learning Unit e-learning programmes go automatically onto the NLMS as national content. • Core Learning Unit will continue to provide it’s own learning management system to the NHS before full implementation of NLMS and will continue to provide the CLU MLE to Social Care in the 10 SHA regions. Approach to NLMS • The Core Learning Unit works closely with the NLMS Team to build e-learning programmes to the specification and help to implement the uptake of the NLMS nationally. • As indicated some of our programmes are also available via NLMS, and we would kindly ask that you contact your organisation’s NLMS Account Manager for further details.

  7. Programme Breakdown • Each module is broken down into 2 sections: • Content • Assessment

  8. Content Learners must read the content in order to pass the module

  9. Links to external information Throughout the modules learners are directed to external information and guidance

  10. Links to external information Links to documents that can be downloaded and printed for future reference

  12. Sample quiz question Throughout the programme learners are prompted to take questions which help enforce the learning

  13. Assessment Each module has its own assessment section which learners need to obtain a score of 80% or more in order to pass

  14. Module completion Once the learner has viewed all the content the module will turn complete in the menu Once the assessment has been passed, this will show up as passed

  15. Time to complete • The time taken to complete the programme will vary between learner to learner however it should take approximately 2 – 3 hours to complete

  16. Certificate • Learners complete the programme by: • Viewing 85% or more of the content • Obtaining a passmark of 80% or more in the assessments • Once these are complete a printable certificate will be generated and stored in their account

  18. Reporting • Organisations can appoint administrators • Access to reporting facilities • Auditable tracking information
