  2. In Hinduism, a Dhuna is an object used for worship. It's made of charcoal and lighted for the purpose of offering incense. Dhuna is often used during special occasions such as Mahashivaratri or Durga Puja ceremonies. The smoke emanated from a Dhuna is believed to carry the divine scent of the god or goddess. Anyone who touches the ash of a Dhuna is said to receive good fortune. A dhunachi is a cylindrical vessel with a large cavity in the middle and a flared handle. Traditional dhunachis are made of earthenware, but silver and brass dhunachis require longer handles due to the heat. The dhuna is lit by placing a coal at the bottom, which ignites a layer of coconut husk. In addition, incense is sprinkled on top of the coconut husk. The Dhunasamagri is a special type of incense that is burned during aarti ceremonies. It contains a mixture of Indian Frankincense, or dhuno. It has a pleasant scent, and is a sign of reverence for the deity. It can be offered with incense made of Indian Incense, but is not required for worship.
