    1. Context clues

    2. One problem in reading is vocabulary. We feel uneasy if we do not know the meaning of each new vocabulary in the text. However, even we know the meaning of every single word, we may not understand it as well. How to grasp the meaning then? In this part, context clues will be introduced to help readers guess the meaning of unknown words in the text.

    3. 1. Explanation A group of words that follow an unknown word or expression sometimes restate or explain what the preceding word means. Signal clues include or, in other words, that is. Punctuation marks like commas, dashes, and brackets can also help.

    4. Example: A membrane, a sheet of tissue, covers or lines a surface or divides an. Organ into lobes. Cardiotherapy – the treatment of heart disease – is applied to the patient.     7. 3. Illustration Examples and pictures given in the text usually suggest the meaning to unfamiliar words. Example clues are for example, for instance, such as, like.

    8. Example : Additive drugs such as sleeping pills (valium) can harm our health if we take them continuously for a long time.
