  2. Timeline • Add the following events to your timeline using pages 780-783 in the American History textbook • D-Day • St. Lô • Liberation of Paris • Battle of the Bulge • Russian Army storms Berlin • V-E Day

  3. The Allies take Europe • D-Day (June 6, 1944) • US and British troops invade France through Normandy • Allies tricked the Germans into thinking that the attack would come at Calais • Paratroopers were sent behind German lines in the night • The rest of the force attacked by sea in the morning

  4. The Allies take Europe • D-Day (June 6, 1944) • St. Lô (July 25, 1944) • By this time the Allies had a million troops at their beachhead in France • Massive bombardment at St. Lô broke the German lines and allowed the allies to advance into France
