  1. Iceland: The Best Day Trips Filled With Natural Wonders And Food Everyone’s mind houses an obsession for food, and there is something intriguingly satisfying about gobbling delicacies at a travel destination. So, it is quite natural for you to crave for a few Icelandic treats when traversing the Golden Circle. Then again, it will take about seven to eight hours to complete the Golden Circle circuit, so eating something along the way is mandatory.

  2. Skyr Not everyone is comfortable with the things that the locals eat, but Skyr is something anyone can try. It is a thick and creamy dairy item and a favorite of the natives. You can get it on any of the restaurants you come across on the Grand Golden Circle day trip. The best way to describe it would be to say that it is a crossbreed between cottage cheese and yogurt.

  3. Icelandic hot dogs Very few people can turn down tasty hot dogs, and you won’t be able to pass away the Icelandic hot dog either, better known as Pylsur. Hot dogs have been in Iceland for over six years, and they use a blend of beef, pork, and lamb in the sausages. You should consider grabbing a bite of it on the Grand Golden Circle day trip with sweet brown mustard, deep-fried crunchy onions, and a velvety remoulade.

  4. Cheese and ice cream Both cheese and ice creams put a smile on the faces of food enthusiasts, and you can get a lot of both at Iceland. Hundreds of ice cream shops cloud the streets of Reykjavik. You will also get some of it on the Golden Circle route. You shouldn’t find it surprising that the locals of Iceland are absolutely crazy about ice cream.

  5. Rye bread and butter Rye bread is one of the staple dishes of Iceland, and there are hundreds of great ways to eat it. You can have it with smoked salmon on top, cream cheese in ice cream, or extra creamy butter seasoned with lava salt. The baking process of this bread is highly peculiar. The bakers bury it exactly thirty centimeters in the ground next to a hot water spring.

  6. Lamb meat Icelandic cuisine is incomplete without one component, and that is lamb meat. If you want something that will satisfy your hunger to the fullest on the long day trip around the Golden Circle, then you have to try a lamb dish. Eateries serve it in different ways. You can get it as a stew containing root vegetables or a roasted variation of it in a spiced gravy.

  7. A few other dishes The ones given above are just a few of the most famous delicacies of Iceland. There are a few other dishes which are mostly for the more adventurous eaters. If you’re dead serious about eating strictly local food, then you should try fermented shark. It isn’t a part of Iceland’s daily cuisine per se, but it is more of a heritage. People used to rely on buried, dried, pickled, and smoked shark meat in the old days to survive the harsh winters.
