  5. Journals “Your Key To Success in Science” Science Journal

  6. A science journal is your students’ very own DIARY for learning about Science. All their work is in ONE spot. It is a great way for them to study what they have learned. It is a great way for them to keep their papers ORGANIZED. They can be PLAYFUL AND CREATIVE. It lets them be like a REAL SCIENTIST! What is A Science Journal? Science Journal

  7. Mathematics • Investigations and Envisions Mathematics Curriculum • Math Journal- much of the daily class work will be done in here • M-Class Math Assessment

  8. Language Arts Block • Reading • Language Arts • Spelling • Social Studies *All of these subjects will be integrated this year.

  9. Reading • Guided Reading • Focus on specific needs of students. • Groups will continuously change. • Literacy Work Stations • Assessments • DRA • TPRI • Comprehension Tests

  10. Language Arts • Mini Lessons • Writer’s Workshops (Writing process) • Journals • Dictation Sentences

  11. Spelling • Word Work Activities • High Frequency Words • Spelling Patterns • Spelling Tests

  12. Social Studies • People and Places Curriculum • Weekly Readers • Map Skills with Daily Geography • Included in Guided Reading materials and Literacy Work Stations.

  13. Homework • Read 20 minutes nightly. • Study spelling words nightly. • Addition/Subtraction Flashcards • Occasional Math Practice Sheets • Occasional Reading Passages *If your child has EXCESSIVE homework, then he/she is probably not using the time given in class to complete the work.

  14. Grades • Emphasis in Education now is that of a hands-on approach to learning. You can expect there will not be as many graded papers sent home weekly as may have been coming to you in the past. • Per district policy, your student’s average for the 9 weeks will be weighted as follows: Tests=50% Daily Work=40% Homework/Participation=10%

  16. Other Important Info • School day begins promptly @ 7:50. Tardy Bell rings @ 8:00. • Dismissal @ 3:00. • It is so important that your child is present at school every day that he/she is not ill. Please send a note or call the office regarding any absences. • All medications, including cough drops, must be accompanied by a note and kept in the nurse’s office.
