  1. Discover…morocco By Awatif Kaissi

  2. brief • A local photographic company called Progress Media is holding a competition for students, to promote the local area. The competition is called ‘the camera never lies (or does it?)’ I needed to source a ranges of images captured by either: • Using a digital camera • Using a scanner • Sourcing them from the internet • Sourcing them from different sources • I needed to manipulate images to produce a final product for submission.

  3. In this mood board I included the most notorious aspects of morocco that everyone knows about and wants to know about; food, landmarks, fashion and souvenirs. From this I was able to identify that I could incorporate all these aspects into my magazine cover. However first of all my initial designs were on fashion, culture/landmarks and souvenirs which allowed me to come to the conclusion that I wanted to blend these aspects together to make a magazine cover on the general traditional morocco. • The mood board has pictures from famous landmarks such as morocco mall which is a new shopping Centre that has become quite iconic in morocco and so I thought I had to add it due to it becoming one of Morocco's finest tourist attraction so quickly.

  4. Planning • Those 3 designs were in my initial planning from which I had to choose my final design. I focused my magazine covers on fashion, culture and souvenir/landmarks. When I made these designs I thought about how the colours of the background would go with the text and font on top and this has been my focus up until my final graphic which contains a home colour that shows my magazine cover to be professional and not messy. I chose appropriate colours and fonts and font sizes for my text according to each graphic. • Afterwards I surveyed 20 people to see their opinions on my 3 designs and 60% chose the second cover, the one with the golden yellow double doors, due to it symbolizing morocco the most whilst being simple and informative. This left 30% choosing the third one and 10% choosing the first one. When asking which one stood out the most the majority answered with the second one again due to the contrasting colours of the background.

  5. I chose to do my magazine on the traditional aspect of morocco as I felt that the culture, fashion and soul of the country would be captured well in my magazine cover. Throughout the journey I made many changes and improved many features of the image in order to reach its full potential, my present magazine cover. My initial designs stressed my thoughts on morocco but were vague and isolated from each other from which I made the decision to merge each aspect of Morocco together into one cover. I decided to change my final design when making my graphic as I felt it was too simplistic and boring.
