  1. Steps to Goal Setting • Goal setting is the strongest source for human motivation. • The Pete Gray story – “a winner never quits”

  2. Steps to Goal Setting Step 1 Identify something you’d like to work on. Write it down in general terms. Example – “I want to exercise more.”

  3. Steps to Goal Setting • Step 2 • Write a specific goal. • State three or more behaviors that will help you achieve your goal. • Example – “I want to exercise 5 days a week for an hour. I will lift weights for 30 minutes and jog for 30 minutes.”

  4. Steps to Goal Setting • Step 3 • Identify the steps you will need to get ready. • Example – • Get membership to the YMCA • Plan a ride to get there • Get a friend to go with you

  5. Steps to Goal Setting • Step 4 • Commit a specific time to get your plan underway. • Example – M-W-F-S-Su at 3 pm for 3 months.

  6. Steps to Goal Setting • Step 5 • Set up a chart on which you can measure your progress. • Put your goal on the chart so you can see it. • Example – a weight lifting chart

  7. Steps to Goal Setting • Step 6 • Plan rewards for yourself. • Example – new CD, new clothes, party
