  2. How do created and found spaces serve the needs of performances? • Created and found spaces serve the needs of performances because they allow the directors to bring their setting to life through the use of visual aspects. It provides the place for the performance to be held. • Theatre spaces can be any place that can accommodate the actors and audience.

  3. Types of theatre spaces • Street theatre – brings the performance to the people. It is more convenient. Often times street theatre is used by directors with political or social agendas . • Multifocus theatre- Multifocus theatre is where several different performances may be set up and the audience gets to choose which performance they wish to see.

  4. Types of theatre spaces • Environmental staging –In environmental staging it is all about actor and audience interaction. • Schechner did a production of Dionysus in 69 staged in a garage and the audience was allowed to sit anywhere. While the performance went on some scenes would occur right in the audience member’s lap or an actor may whisper something to the audience member during the performance. • Site- Specific Staging - The theatrical environment is specific to the theme of the theatrical performance. • Ex. 6. What does performance space tell us about the values of a culture? • The performance space or the theatre tells us how much a culture values or disvalues theatre. • For example , The Greeks built their theatre next to the temple of Dionysus. The location of the theatre showcased the theatres ritual origins. Their theatres were also large showing that a lot of people attended or were expected to attend performances.

  7. Values of cultures and their performance space • On the other hand the public theatres of Elizabethan England were located in poor communities in rough neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city. The theatres were also constructed poorly. This showcased that theatre was morally disapproved in that area.
