  1. Iron workercareer cluster:Construction and Extraction Occupations Mateo Friscioni February 7,2014 4th hour Career/ Technology Foundations

  2. Introduction • “My dad, he worked rebar, an ironworker. Watching my pops get up every single morning, going into work, working hard - I think that really made me want to work that hard, wanted to make me get up early and go for a run or get a lift in or get some extra hitting in and really try to better myself every day’’-Bryce Harper. Working in my shop is really fun I love it. In the summer I work at my dads shop and I like it because I can weld and help my dad do stuff that needs to be done. In order to get a better understanding of my chosen career for an iron worker I will be researching “Nature of work, work conditions, Training, Qualifications, Advancement, job outlook, earrings, and back up career.

  3. Nature of work • Unload and stack prefabricated steel so that it can be lifted easily with slings • Use a crane to lift steel beams, girders, and columns into place • Stand on beams or girders to help position pieces that are being lifted • Signal crane operators for positioning of the structural steel • Align beams and girders into position • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of the structural steel • Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts or by welding them into place • Use metal shears, torches, and welding equipment to cut, bend, and weld the steel

  4. Working conditions • Physical or mental: Both because you need physical strength to carry steel and mental strength to understand the blue prints • Outdoor or indoor: Both because you can be on the field putting up the structure of the building or indoor fabricating • Hours: Normally it’s a 8 hour day but since my dad owns it we can work longer or shorter hour • Conditions: The conditions change with the letter in the shop its hot in the summer and cold in the winter, outside the conditions are the same

  5. Training, qualification and Advancement • There is no real education you need

  6. Job outlook/Employment • Employment rate: rise 11 percent • Find a job in: my dads shop in Clinton Township • I will keep my shop in Clinton Township

  7. Earnings • Years pay: 83,790 per year • Life style goal #1: Live in a 2 story house (-) 185,000 • Goal #2: Drive a Ford Raptor (+) 70,000 • Goal #3: Take over the shop when dad retires(+) • Goal #4: Own a German Sheppard and a Rottweiler(+)

  8. Back up career • For a back up career I would love to be a professional foot ball player • I would love to be on the Pittsburgh Steelers

  9. Summery • I want to be a iron worker because of all theses things I could have with hard work. I really like to work hard because I feel accomplished when I finish all the work. It makes me proud of myself. So I hope I will get this occupation. If I could ask for one thing it would be to do this. And maybe one day it will be my company when my dad hands it down to me. So I have not changed what I want to do. So hopefully the work will be good in the feature. And ill I need is a high school diploma but I still want to go to college to have a shot at my back up career.
