  2. General Rules • Must ask permission to leave class • No CHEATING (see handbook) • Do not play with faucets or gas valves

  3. MORE RULES • Do not throw objects

  4. And More Rules • Be seated by second bell • Pick up classroom folders • No horseplay • Show respect toward others (think before you speak)

  5. Extra Credit • Vocabulary at end of chapter • Must be done prior to test • Number of bonus points possible is directly proportional to number of terms

  6. Vocabulary • 0-10 words = 4 pts • 11-15 words = 5 pts • 16-20 words = 6 pts • 21-25 words = 7 pts • 26 + words = 8 pts

  7. Laboratory safety • ALWAYS wear safety goggles when instructed to • Avoid loose clothing

  8. General Safety • When in doubt, ask. • DO NOT perform unauthorized experiments • If a spill occurs report it and clean it immediately • DO NOT eat or drink in lab.

  9. First Aid • Fire blanket • Eye wash • Emergency shower • Fire extinguisher • Sand bucket

  10. Heating and Fire Safety • Do not heat a chemical unless instructed to • Keep paper away from flame • Never reach across flame

  11. How to light a Bunsen Burner.

  12. More fire safety… • Point test tube away from yourself and others when heating. • Never heat a chemical in a closed container. • Do not grab hot glassware without the aid of tongs or clamps.

  13. Chemicals • Do not touch taste or smell a chemical. • Always pour acid into water never water into acid.

  14. Always clean up lab area when finished.
