  7. FERC Order on Smart Grid Interop Standards • 6-month review • Open meetings held in January and March • Found there was not enough consensus to rule on the “first five” IEC standards, but: • Emphasized the role of the NIST SGIP in accelerating standards development and adoption • Encouraged more participation • Did not ask for a definition of “consensus” • Did not clarify if FERC would mandate the standards • Docket is closed (for now)

  8. NARUC Summer Resolutions • Addressed and made recommendations around: • Cost recovery • Investment • Dynamic Rates • Consumer Engagement • Consumer Protections • Data Access, Privacy Issues • Interoperability Standards • Security Issues • Lessons Learned • Third Party Deployments • Working with Federal Partners • http://summer.narucmeetings.org/2011SummerFinalResolutions.pdf

  9. Canadian Electricity Association • CEA released a “Guideline for Smart Grid Standards” • “…intended to provide a framework for electric utilities and other decision-makers in selecting standards related to modernizing electricity infrastructure.” • Contains eight fundamental principles and fifteen elective criteria intended to assist manufacturers and users of smart grid technologies in developing and integrating new and emerging technologies • http://www.electricity.ca/posts/guideline-for-smart-grid-standards-released-66.php

  10. ZigBee Alliance Activity • Technical document 0.7 (implementable version) of SEP 2.0 is released for 60 days of comment • Resolved key issues surrounding the transport layer protocols (UDP/CoAP vs. TCP/HTTP) that blocked the ballot approval the first time • Updated version of SEP 1.1 released last week

  11. PAP 18: SEP 1.x to 2.0 Transition and Coexistence • Met face-to-face in Montreal to show the 0.95 version of the white paper with all (200+) comments resolved • Larry Kohrmann presented our progress to the Governing Board • Achieved consensus to move the white paper to version 1.0 and published on 07/22/2011 • Requirements delivered to the ZigBee Alliance

  12. And… • Larry received the SGIP Leadership Award for co-chairing PAP 18
