  2. promotion A promotion is the advancement of an employee's rank or position in an organizational hierarchy system. Promotion may be an employee's reward for good performance, i.e., positive .appraisal

Steps in promotion process , when a manager wants to promote an employee, they must follow a number of steps, such as 1- advertising the position, 2- accepting applications from qualified candidates, 3- screening and interviewing candidates, 4- and then documenting why they chose a particular candidate.

  4. Managing Promotions Making promotion decisions –Decision 1: Is Seniority or Competence the Rule? –Decision 2: How Should We Measure Competence? –Decision 3: Is the Process Formal or Informal? –Decision 4: Vertical, Horizontal, or Other?

Employees’ reasons for desiring transfers ; –Personal enrichment and growth --More interesting jobs –Greater convenience (better hours, location) --Greater advancement possibilities --Employers’ reasons for transferring employees –To vacate a position where an employee is no longer needed. –To fill a position where an employee is needed. –To find a better fit for an employee within the firm. -To boost productivity by consolidating positions.
