Toxic Gas, Oxygen, Heat Sensors – Analog Front End The Sensors • Combustible Gas Sensors – 3 node Amperometric sensor – Examples: CO, H2, H2S • Working electrode (also called the sensing electrode) is designed to optimize the oxidation or reduction of the toxic gas to be measured. • Reference electrode anchors the working electrode potential. • Counter electrode (EA ) balances the reaction of the working electrode. Toxic Gas Handheld – Power Sections ADC Power : Focus on low Iq and high efficiency parts ISL9021: Wide Vin low Iq single LDO ISL9103/4: Low Iq high efficiency switching regulator In high end models, USB regulation and protection IC can be promoted: ISL80121: 1A ultra low drop out LDO with fixed 5V output Power source can be a stack of alkaline, NiCad batteries, or a Li-ion battery, or even a USB supply. Basically input can be anywhere from 1.8V to 6V. Small power loss is the key as devices need to run for long hours.

ISL9021: Single Low VIN, High PSRR 250mA LDO Typical Application and Why Low VIN & High PSRR is Needed • Description • Single low input voltage, high PSRR LDO capable of delivering up 250mA of continuous current • Features • Wide input dynamic range of 1.5V – 5.5V efficiently operates from buck output • High PSRR at very high frequencies reduces DCDC output ripple and makes it ideal to be used as a buffer to any high switching frequency DCDC. • Very good noise performance (14µVrms @ VOUT = 1.5V) • Output voltage as low as 0.9V • Very small packages 3.7V 1.2V ISL9021 1.8V ISL9103/4 Hi PSRR LDO 1.6x1.6 µTDFN 4-Ball WLCSP Depending on input source, switching regulator at first stage may not be required.   16. ISL9230: iPath Management • How does it work? • At given current limit, control core continuously monitors the output voltage. Actions are based on three conditions: • VOUT holds steady, meaning available current is adequate • Deliver needed current to both paths • VOUT starts to drop, meaning available current is not adequate • Reduce ICHG until VOUT stops dropping • VOUT continues to drop to below VBAT level, meaning available current is far below demand • The battery starts providing current to the load instead of charging.
