  1. Faculty Forum – Representation Formula 27 February 2008

  2. Call for Committees • In your mailbox this week • Thank you for your service • Please consider volunteering, especially for any committee

  3. Current Census • 1310 tenured and tenure-track faculty • Increase of 44 from06-07 • Largest: A&S (479), Medicine (202), CAFNR (136), Engineering (101) • Smallest: Graduate School (15), Health Professions (19), Nursing (21), Law (29) • All others 30< x < 100

  4. Faculty Council Representation • No more than 30 members on Council • All divisions entitled to 1 representative (14 total) • 1-75 -> 1 rep., 76-125 -> 2 reps, rest apportioned for each 50 or major fraction thereof • A&S 9, Med 4, CAFNR 3, Eng 2, Vet Med 2 • Currently, the faculty bylaws name the represented divisions.

  5. Ballot item • Shall the Collected Rules & Regulations (CRR 300.010.H.2) be amended to read: • “All colleges and schools that are headed by a Dean who reports to the Provost for academic affairs shall be entitled to voting representation”.

  6. Rationale • Several divisions named in the bylaws no longer exist or have been renamed. • Several divisions (e.g., Health Professions) are now free-standing entities. • New system would not require amending the bylaws when new schools or colleges are created, or name changes occur.

  7. Consequences • All units retain representation except School of Natural Resources which would be represented through CAFNR, instead of having its own representative. • Consistent with other Schools within colleges, e.g., Music and Accountancy • CAFNR would retain 3 Council representatives. • 3 + 1 now; 3 in the immediate future.
