Muslim Chaplains- First week • Security/key talk • Communications • Radio Talk • Provision of Name Badge, I.D. • Chain, Belt and pouches • Chaplaincy starting out 1 and 2 • World Faith • Faith Awareness training • Quantum/Pnomis • Counter Terrorism • Challenge it Change it • Health and Safety • Fire • Violence Reduction

Many other training and courses available for personal development discuss with training department and line management and seek good practise from other prison Imams, • Don’t be shy to ask. • Many establishments vary with day to day routines but the Chaplaincy Handbook is a good source of guidance.

  4. Day One The Imam will be met by member of the Chaplaincy team at the gate. Welcome, and introduction to team and Managing Chaplain Managing Chaplain to present PSI-51 and/or Op Man (if applicable) After refreshments – Introduction to Governor and SMT followed by a tour of the Prison. Take a tour of Chaplaincy’s places of worship. Brief look through the pages of Chaplaincy Handbook Explain briefly the process of Inductions/Receptions, Seg and Healthcare Statutory duties explained with Regime monitoring figure updates. Go through entries in Chaplaincy Journal Show duty chaplains’ rota, weekly bulletin, internal meeting schedule S.I.R explained, and other relevant Documents. Pray Dhohr/Asr where appropriate.

Day Two • Visit wings, Chaplaincy notice boards, sign in/out of Wings book, Check observation book, and take a copy of Prisoner regime/core day list • Visit Security office, Command Suite, Reception, Segregation, Visits Hall, Healthcare, Education/Library, Sport Department, and Communications. • Shadow Duty Chaplain and carry out Statutory Duties • Explain procedures of “receiving bad news” Serious illness/death of relatives. • Pray Dhohr/Asr where appropriate.

Day Three • Shadow Duty Chaplain to carry out Statutory Duties (session2) • Visit catering department to discus Halal procedures, taste menu samples. • Visit the canteen and order procedures with a price list.Invite to a pastoral care/ACCT review session (as and when applicable) • Visit couple of work shops, if possible, • Pray Dhohr/Asr where appropriate.

  7. Day Four • Access IT tools, such as telephone, Quantum, C-Nomis. • Go through the diary, show Establishment meetings schedule for the current year. • Show religious festivals calendar. • Discuss Ramadan and Eid preparations and delivery. • Update ref. HQ, Muslim Advisor, Chaplain General, Regional Chaplain, MCA + RA’s. • Prospect union… • Refer to communications, and Chaplaincy meeting. • Show couple of cells in different wings, (emphasis how to shoot the bolt/keys in pouch) • Pray Dhohr/Asr where appropriate

  8. Day Five • Pull out Muslim list, and issue to wings. • Stand by wing or dining hall servery and observe lunch being served. • Back in the office, discuss Jumah preparation and arrival/departure of prisoners. • Prepare the Mosque/multi faith room for literature and check wudu area. • Pray Asr where appropriate. • Take notes to reflect on - • Finish early.
