  2. Civil Disobedience • The refusal to comply with certain laws or to pay taxes and fines, as a peaceful form of political protest.

  3. Gandhi • Gained India’s independence from Britain through nonviolent means. Inspired MLK and others to use nonviolent means.

  4. Montgomery Bus Boycott – Lasted for one year, led to Supreme Court ruling bus segregation unconstitutional

  5. Freedom Rides – Blacks who rode busses to purposely challenge segregation laws and were often arrested.

  6. The Supreme Court later ruled that segregation on public transportation was unconstitutional

  7. Sit Ins – Nonviolent protests, usually in restaurants where people would sit to take up space.
