  1. Caring for Your WoolBedding Whether you have just bought your first woollen bedding product, or your wool doona, wool quilt and any other bedding of yours already comes in wool, then you would’ve realised the huge difference that it makes in your comfort. Wool is one of the easiest ways to increase your sleeping comfort naturally, and without breaking the bank. Luckily, in Australia we have some of the highest quality, natural wool in the world. Some of the benefits of wool include: Increase in support Pain assistance Insulation Moisture absorption Like any other bedding items, your wool doona and wool quilt are going to need some upkeep to keep them looking, feeling and smelling in the shape that you bought them in. Looking after your wool bedding products really isn’t difficult and there are just a few things that you need to do to keep it in tiptop shape. These are the most important things that you can do to keep your wool looking and feeling great:

  2. The right protection As with any other bedding product, your wool bedding needs the correct protection if it’s going to stay in any form of great shape. If you have a wool duvet, ensure that you get a good cover for it, the same goes for your pillows, and if you have a woollen mattress topper then get a high quality fitted sheet. These covers can all be washed and are the best way to stop your wool bedding from getting damaged. Airing it out Wool bedding is naturally absorbent and that means it sucks up all your sweat and moisture while you sleep. That’s why it’s incredibly important to open up your bed in the morning, air out your bedding and let it breathe. This allows your overnight moisture to evaporate and leaves it dry and fresh. Also sunning out your bedding a few times a year is a good way of keeping it fresh. Dry cleaning? It can be tempting to take your woollen bedding to a dry cleaner, however, unless you know of a certified “green” dry cleaner, we don’t recommend that you do. Having a natural wool-based bedding product would be completely pointless if you took it to a dry cleaners that uses toxic, non-environmentally-friendly cleaning products and practices. Washing your bedding Washing woollen bedding can be tricky, and it’s so important to get right, otherwise you could absolutely wreck your precious cargo. We advise the following kind of wash cycle: Use a top-loader if you can. Set the cycle on the most delicate setting like hand wash. Use a cup full of environmentally friendly washing detergent. Fill machine with warm water. Add a small amount of biodegradable detergent or a wool wash. Place item in machine; gently push it down to absorb the water. Let it soak. Put it on a high-speed spin after the soak, and repeat the process.

  3. Don’t let your machine go into drying mode – make sure to get the bedding out first and sun-dry. You shouldn’t clean your woollen bedding too often, as it incrementally shrinks each time it goes through the process, so be sure that your bedding absolutely needs to be washed and not just spot cleaned before you pop it into the machine.
