1. Year 11 Work Experience “A placement on an employer’s premises in which a student carries out a particular task or duty, or range of tasks and duties, more or less as would an employee, but with the emphasis on the learning aspects of the experience.”

2. To place all interested Year 11 students in a WEP before they graduate in 2014.

3. Why Work Experience? Find out about the activities that make up ‘work’. Meet people doing different jobs and learn what is involved in their jobs. Discover more about your skills, talents and interests and those sought in you chosen career area. Increase your maturity, self-confidence and interpersonal skills Find out what you want or don’twant to do in the future. Help choose the type of course you want or don’t want to study in university Support your university application Make links between school work and skills needed in working life

4. When will it take place? • The majority will take place week beginning 18th June 2012. • It will be five working days long. • They may choose to do it at a different time but it must be outside of the school academic calendar i.e. school holidays.

5. Who will find suitable WE placements and where will they be? • Successful WEP will be the responsibility of both the student (with support of family, friends and their contacts) and Patana School. • Their placement could be anywhere from an office, to a factory to a golf course. It all depends on the career they’ve chosen. • The placement could be in Bangkok, Buriram or Bangladesh. • We will endeavor to organize a pre-visit to the placement before the you go. This may not be feasible if the WEP is outside of Bangkok or it is held during school holidays.

6. Employer Expectations Employers expect their employees to: Work diligently and efficiently throughout the day Be polite and helpful Be punctual. Be on time in the mornings and after breaks Show initiative and enthusiasm Do your very best at all times Be appropriately dressed for the work place Professional work place behaviour and confidentiality

7. What will they be doing in their placement? Work related activities include: a) shadowing b) work observation c) work-based projects d) mock interviews: in which they are given experience of interviews. Note: theymay be moved around to different parts of the organisation to learn how each one works. Take the initiative and show an interest in what is happening at your work placement

9. Step Three Job Vacancies will be advertised in the Daily Notices in Term 2. Advertisements and job descriptions will also be placed on the Year 11 Notice Board. Position Vacant – example Fashion Design at Chic Chic is a Thai based fashion house located in Bangkok with outlets in many prestigious shopping areas along Sukhumvit Rd. Their style of clothing is suited for young sophisticated women who like to dress well, showing uniqueness in a feminine style. Chic are looking for creative individuals who are interested in design and style, which matches that of the Chic label.
