Reading District Vision • We believe... ...in an active, text-rich, supportive literacy classroom. • The components of a balanced/workshop approach provided daily. • Explicit instruction woven through the components of a balanced/workshop approach. • Reading, writing, listening and speaking provided in context vs. isolation. • Daily, on-going assessment and evaluation to monitor student progress. Effective literacy instruction begins with assessment and is a continuous operation that is at the heart of teaching and learning.

  7. Spelling • Words Their Way- Follows the 5 stages of spelling development • Targeted instruction at students individual spelling level • Teachers guide students to mastery of their individual word lists through spelling sorts, phonics, and vocabulary practice.
