  1. Intro Run footage of video games, with McGonigal’s speech running as a voiceover. Cut to video footage of McGonigal. Length- 30-45 seconds.

  2. Cut to Me. • Me sitting in a computer chair casually, with a headset around my neck. • My thoughts after initially watching the video, which inspired me to work with this topic. • I will say that I agreed with some of her ideas, but disagreed with others, not going into any detail. • Length: 30 Seconds

  3. Title: Gaming 101: MMORPGs • Briefly discuss what an MMORPG is, and provide clips from games such as Rift, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and World of Warcraft. • Talk about the extent to which people play these, and the resulting positive or negative impacts it has on people. • Length: 45 seconds

  4. Pros of MMORPGs • Take you to a different world where you can interact with new people • Can be beneficial to honing certain social skills, such as maintaining relationships. • Can cause an increase in problem solving and critical thinking skills, proven by data. • Length: 30 seconds

  5. Cons of MMORPGs • They are addicting. Give statistics, results of not being able to feed addictions etc. Discuss suicides, threats, etc related to addiction. • They cause a loss of reality, meaning some people would rather be interacting online than face-to-face. • They reduce a person’s productivity, provided with backing examples. • Length: 30 seconds

  6. Title: Gaming Can be Effective: In Moderation • Show quotes from her book on a black screen with ambient background music. • I will be doing a voiceover of the quotes here, over light music. • Length: 45 seconds • (At around 4 minutes total here.)

  7. Interview with male gamer regarding these quotes • Shot in a gaming environment, with a computer present. • Questions TBD, but will likely include things such as: • In what ways do you believe gaming can be beneficial? • Have you experienced any gains that you notice as a result of gaming? • Length: 1 minute.

  8. Quote/McGonigal • I will display a quote by McGonigal from her book, in plain text against a black background. “Gamers need to increase weekly play time from 3 billion hours to 21 billion hours.” • I will also have her speak this quote over the text. • Then I will cut to myself playing a game, turn around and start discussing this idea and how I feel about this idea, which is that it is a bit over the top. • Length: 45 seconds

  9. B-Roll Footage • I will continue talking over some gameplay, occasionally bringing in relevant quotations from her text. • I will cut back to me talking, with a headset around my neck, relating to McGonigal’s stance on relationships and gaming. • I will then shift to my interview with an online participant. • Length: 30 seconds

  10. Title: Gamers’ Opinions

  11. Online Interview • Inside of World of Warcraft, I will conduct an interview with a veteran player, and capture the conversation by separating the chat channels within the game, using fraps to capture the screen. • I will play audio over the interview, likely some sort of ambient music, possibly part of the WoW soundtrack. • Length: 1 minute and 30 seconds. • (At about 8 minutes here.)

  12. My Personal Findings • Discuss my experiences playing MMORPGs and how I feel about them. • I will discuss social aspects, as well as intellectual aspects. • Length: 1 minute.

  13. Focus Group • 5 participants, 3 male 2 female. • Multiple questions asking about specific games, time they spend playing games of any kind, their opinions on McGonigal’s book and speech, and their experience playing MMORPGs, which is part of the focus group. • Length: 4 Minutes

  14. Concluding Thoughts

  15. Credits

  16. Miscellaneous • Until I shoot the footage, the timing and positioning of everything is clearly subject to change.
