  1. Ultrasound and Pregnancy

  2. Introduction Ultrasound is carried out by using sound waves which have higher frequency than a normal human ear can catch or hear. These sound waves are used to create the image of the internal parts of the body. Ultrasound scans are also known as sonography. These are safer as compared to other imaging techniques as it uses sound waves instead of radiation. The person doing the ultrasound uses a device called a transducer and keeps it on the body to get the inside image. The results of the ultrasound are used by Doctors, Radiologists and Cardiologists. There are some of the Best Imaging Centre in South Delhi that provideultrasound facilities.

  3. Ultrasound to monitor pregnancy Ultrasound is used to study the internal organs and whether they are functioning properly or not. They provide the images or sonograms that are used to monitor the body organs. Most commonly, an ultrasound is done during pregnancy to monitor the growth of the baby periodically. It is safe for both mother and the baby, but it's advisable not to do an ultrasound if it's not necessary and not prescribed. Based on the period of the pregnancy, the ultrasound is done for the following reasons:

  4. 1st trimester of pregnancy:  • To confirm pregnancy • Check the fetal heartbeat • Get the estimated due date • Examine the internal organs like the placenta, uterus, ovaries • Diagnose any abnormal growth or miscarriage cases(if any)

  5. 2nd and 3rd trimester of pregnancy: • Monitor the fetus’ growth and position • Determine the sex of the baby • Check for a birth defect or Down syndrome(if any) • Check on the blood flow between the mother and child • Check if there is proper oxygen reaching the fetus • Guide any other test that may require.

  6. Pre ultrasound Preparation: To prepare someone for performing an ultrasound, the mother should have a full bladder. One should consume enough water to get a clear image. A special gel is applied to the body so that the sound waves travel perfectly to the internal organs and the transducer can effectively capture the images.
