• India, a country well known for diversity, diversity in every aspect of life like language, food, clothing, livelihood, culture, traditions, craft. Except for vast diversity in every region, it resembles the unity for all mankind. This virtue of Indian land leads to survival. Handicrafts in India reflects its culture, trends and hard work of artisans. The craft of specific region presents the creativity, culture, tradition of belonging area. The glory of Indian handicraft has not only touched the shores of the world but also the heart & soul of the people all over the world. India produces the worlds wonderful art & craft we can't even imagine. Due to the varied nature, India respected all over the universe.

  2. Handicrafts In India • India, a country well known for diversity, diversity in every aspect of life like language, food, clothing, livelihood, culture, traditions, craft. Except for vast diversity in every region, it resembles the unity for all mankind. This virtue of Indian land leads to survival.Handicrafts in India reflects its culture, trends and hard work of artisans. The craft of specific region presents the creativity, culture, tradition of belonging area. The glory of Indian handicraft has not only touched the shores of the world but also the heart & soul of the people all over the world. India produces the worlds wonderful art & craft we can't even imagine. Due to the varied nature, India respected all over the universe.

History • Handicrafts in India is a blend of many dynasties and influenced by invasions of Mughal, Dutch, Portuguese, French, British Empire that results into the variety of culture, tradition and crafts. The legacy of this rich art & culture has been passed on from generations to generations. The land of Royal Family's is a sign of colorful life and enduring traditions.

  4. How art & craft is relevant to culture • Art & craft is a true essence of every culture. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari or east to west, handicrafts are influenced by the availability of materials, religions, tribes, livelihood and artisan's creativity. Every region has its unique art & craft including a variety of aspects. Facets of Indian art & craft changes from one area to another. Every region has its unique specialty from expensive to cheaper materials, which have been carved and crafted from the soul of the craftsman. Indian handicraft is fascinating and has an amazing eye captivating beauty as well.

  5. Worldwide glory • Indian art and craft have been worshiped and respected as tradition and culture do, in the whole world. From Europe, Asia, Britain to all over the world, the work of artisans has been appreciated. From gems and jewel to carpets everything is exported there, from India. Types of craft • Every corner of Indian region speaks for different tribal and rural craft. It includes sculptures, paintings, wooden carving, stonework, textile, carpet and dhurries weaving, jewelry, pottery, clay craft, bamboo and beads work etc.

Wooden carving & furniture • Kashmir, the only state of India where the walnut tree grows, the artisans perform intricate carving on walnut wood and produce furniture. in Karnataka, Sandalwood furniture has its own remarks. Andhra Pradesh is famous for Red sandalwood i.e. called raktchandan. Barmer district of Rajasthan is famous for wooden carving. Jewelry • Jewelry is ruling the heart of India from the ancient time. The excavation at Mohenjodaro and Indus valley Civilization unearthed many ornaments including gold, ivory, copper, silver, precious and semi-precious stones. Southern states, Gujarat, Jaipur the heart of Rajasthan, are the hub of gems & jewel in the recent era.

Paintings • Paintings depict traditions, folk god & goddesses, mythologies, murals and miniature paintings in which the leading ones are Jaipur's miniature painting, Pata Chitra of Bengal, Madhubani of Bihar, Tanjavarum or Tanjore paintings, 3500 years ago Warli art, Mughal paintings, kalamkari of Andhra Pradesh are one of the famous examples. Bamboo art • In northeast, seven sister states are producing handmade products of bamboo.

Textile • Bandhani, Jorjet, Lakhnow's cotton, Kanjivaram silk saree, apparels from Gujarat, block printing of Rajasthan has gained the specialty in the textile industry. • Except these all leatherwork, carpets, dhurries weaving, needlework, beadwork, metalwork, stone work, paper craft, papier mache, terracotta, blue pottery, puppetry, shawls, tribal art, folk toys, pottery and many more crafts have gained their unique identity.      • The legacy of the incredible heritage of India should be passed on to flourish it all over the world. But It's our misfortune that this incredible talent of artisans suffers poverty and didn't get much attention as foreign countries pay.
