  1. NEXTChem Process Analyzers, Inc.

  2. NEXTChem Process Analyzers, Inc. NEXTChem is located in Chicago, IL U.S.A. Our Mission is to build, support and continuously improve the Best Process Analyzers in the World!

  3. NEXTChem Process Analyzers, Inc. What makes NEXTChem Analyzers different? Sampling never requires a filter, decreasing maintenance and increasing reliability Modern electronics makes programming through the User-Interface very simple Using the latest innovations in stepper motor control for precise chemical analyses Combining Multiple Chemical Analyses with Multiple Sample Streams within a single unit Chemical Measurements with Process Control in a single unit

  4. Types of Measurement Techniques NEXTChem Process Analyzers, Inc. Titration Endpoint Determination (sulfite in sea water) Standard Addition Ion Selective Electrodes (ammonia in wastewater)

  5. Titration Curve – Response vs. Concentration At the point of maximum change in sensor response (endpoint) the sample concentration is zero!

  6. Smallest Addition Small Addition Large Addition Typical Titration Curve The reagent additions are controlled by distance from endpoint for maximum accuracy.

  7. Types of Titrations NEXTChem Process Analyzers, Inc. Acid / Base -Acetic Acid Redox -Sulfide Complexation -Cyanide Precipitation -Chloride Color -Hardness

  8. Three Types of Ion Selective Electrodes Solid State Membrane: The membrane is an insoluble crystal of the ion to be determined. Example: Fluoride, Silver/Sulfide, Chlorine Gas Permeable Membrane: A gas permeable membrane separates the sample from the sensor, commonly pH electrode. Example: Ammonia, Carbon Dioxide Neutral Carrier Membrane: The membrane contains an ion specific complexing agent. Example: Nitrate, Potassium

  9. The characteristics of the ISE are described by the Nernst equation The Nernst equation : E = E0 + RT ln(10) log (c) nF E = Offset + Slope . log (c)

  10. Example of Standard Addition Curve Response due to Sample Response due To Spike Calibration

  11. Color Measurements Color Dip Probe is used for the measurement: 630 nm Red, 590 nm Yellow, 520 nm Green, and 470 nm Blue The following analyses can be done with the color measurements: Total Hardness, Calcium Hardness, Phosphate, Manganese (II) and Zinc

  12. NEXTChem Process Analyzers, Inc. OMNIChem Advanced 12 Chemical Analyses / 8 Sample Points (industrial) OMNIChem Basic 8 Chemical Analyses / 4 Sample Points (industrial) MINIChem Plus 4 Chemical Analyses / 4 Sample Points (industrial/municipal) MINIChem 2 Chemical Analyses / 2 Sample Points (municipal)

  13. NEXTChem Process Analyzers, Inc. HANDYChem 4 Chemical Analyses / 4 Sample Points (industrial/municipal) ECOChem 2 Chemical Analyses / 2 Sample Points (municipal)

  14. Many Analyses Available Ammonia (NH3), Nitrate (NO3-), Sulfide (H2S) (Wastewater) Sulfite (SO3-2), Chlorine (Cl2) (Petroleum) Acetic Acid (CH3COOH), Nitric Acid (HNO3) (Chemical) Hardness (Mg+2 & Ca+2), Fluoride (F-) (Drinking Water) Hydroxide Peroxide (H2O2), Caustic (NaOH) (Textile) F/T Acid (H3PO4), F/T Alkalinity (H2CO3) (Metal Finishing) Copper (Cu+2), Silver (Ag+), Cyanide (CN-) (Mining) Ozone (O3), ABC Analysis (S-2/NaOH/CO3-2) (Pulp/Paper) NEXTChem specializes in automating Wet Chemical Analyses!

  15. Examples of some Industrial Experiences City of Fort Wayne alkalinity / pH Clean Water Services ammonia / alkalinity China Petroleum cyanide Eastman Chemical acetic acid & hardness Procter & Gamble alkalinity / hardness Bosch high level chlorine Medtronic low level cyanide Duke Energy high level hardness Saudi Aramco sulfite/pH in sea water

  16. Industrial Experiences Robert Bosch Wiper Systems: Tienen, Belgium Customer’s Sample: 2.40 g/L chlorine (Cl2) in water (very corrosive) Measurement: every 10 minutes Accuracy: + 0.2% relative standard deviation

  17. Industrial Experiences Saudi Aramco: Dammam, Saudi Arabia Customer’s Sample: 50 ppm Sulfite (SO3-) in sea water Measurement: every 10 minutes Accuracy: + 0.2% relative standard deviation

  18. Measurement Cell Dilution Measurement Cell Non Dilution Measurement Cell

  19. Sample Systems Sample Systems Micro Dilution: 0.25 mL - 2.00 mL (<0.1mm particles) Standard Dilution: 5.0 mL - 30.0 mL (<2mm particles) Standard Non-Dilution: 90 / 140 mL (<3mm particles) Self-Cleaning Non-Dilution: 90 / 140 mL (<6mm particles) All Sample Systems are available for all OMNIChem/MINIChem and HANDYChem/ECOChem series analyzers.

  20. Self-Cleaning Sample Valve This valve makes sampling < 6mm particles possible. Most common use is in sewage plants.

  21. Standard Non-Dilution Sample System Used with Clean and Low Concentration Samples Commonly used in Drinking Water/Final Effluent Applications

  22. Sample Panel Materials Standard Dilution Sample System Teflon FEP tubing used in sample panel construction PVDF is be used for the valve bodies and fittings Commonly used in Metal Finishing Plants

  23. Sample Panel Materials Micro-Dilution Sample System Used with very clean and very high concentration samples. All “wetted surfaces” PEEK or Teflon Commonly used in the Semiconductor Industry and Chemical Plants

  24. Modern Electronics Why use 1980’s electronics found in most on-line analyzers, when you can have modern electronics?

  25. Modern Electronics 100 MHz CPU - Hitachi SH3 Series 7708 PC / 32 bit processor 4 MB ROM 2 MB RAM Modbus RTU Touchscreen Interface Unicode/ASCII Up to 57K baud serial communication

  26. Modern Electronics Modbus is standard on all NEXTChem Analyzers. Additional Industrial Networks Available Profibus – DP DeviceNet CANopen ControlNet LonWorks CC – Link FIPIO Phone Modems and Radio Modems can also be added

  27. What does E-Automation Really Mean? The analyzer is assigned an IP address and connected to the plant network. All the screens on the touch screen are available and interactive, making remote changes possible. Installed at Eastman Chemical in Kingsport, TN USA.

  28. International Considerations Multi-Language HMI Universal Power Supply 110/220VAC 50/60Hz

  29. Touchscreen Languages Available • English is the Primary Language • The customer selects the second language • Spanish español • Portuguese portuguese • French français • Dutch nederlands • Arabic العربيّة • Russian русско • Italian italiano • Chinese 电 • Only MINIChem/OMNIChem Interfaces are Bi-Lingual • Spanish is the default second language

  30. Easy to use touchscreen ! NO MORE PUSH BUTTONS! Bright Backlight makes the User Interface easy to read
