  2. Types of Manufacturing

  3. Types of Manufacturing: 1. Custom Manufacturing: - making one product by hand, or making one-of-a-kind products - used for small numbers - typically produced to customers specifications

  4. - requires skilled workers - most expensive - often performed in a general shop

  5. 2. Intermittent Manufacturing: - products are produced in limited quantities - more efficient than custom manufacturing - workers are not as skilled - machines may be general or specialized

  6. 3.Flexible Manufacturing: - using complex machines that can quickly be adjusted to produce various products - can quickly adapt to changing needs - may be used in custom manufacturing

  7. 4. Continuous Manufacturing: - produces a large number of one product - produces a steady flow of products (assembly line) - workers are least skilled - specialized machines are used

  8. Lean Manufacturing - a philosophy - maximizes value and productivity while minimizing waste - strives to be as efficient as possible - creates more value for customers with fewer resources.
